Toto in Chicago

Postby LtVanish » Sat Oct 21, 2006 12:34 pm

I just purchased my tickets to see Toto at Chicago's House of Blues on November 14th. Is anyone else going? I am really excited about this show, it will be my first time seeing the band in person.

I was seriously considering it until I saw you had to be 21 or older.

I seriously hope you get back here
quick like and give us a review.
Never seen em but would love to.

Things I'm thinking of now.......

How big was the venue?
How "into it" was the crowd?
What song was done the best in your opinion?
What song was done poorly?

It was a good show, although not as strong as the L.A. show in September. Luke's guitar solo in the big long medley was less melodic and more wanky than it was in LA, but other than that, a great show from the guys. Awesome to finally get to see them without having to get on a plane first. :)

Thanks WalrusOct09, glad you enjoyed the show.
Always nice to not have to travel far to see the
bands you enjoy.
Got a setlist you can share? :)

Sorry for the delay in getting back on here. The show was great. The House of Blues in Chicago is a small venue, probably fits 1000 people i'm guessing, mostly standing room. The sound is great in there though. I got there early, so I was stage front. Toto blew me away folks, that is all I can say. I knew they were a great band, I knew what to expect, and they still exceeded my expectations. If you have never seen this band live, you need to track them down next time they tour the states. I plan on going out of my way to see them again. I have been telling everyone I know about this show, and people just give me like blank stares when I tell them this was one of the best shows I have ever seen. It is a shame more people don't know that Toto is the greatest live band available today. It has been 5 days since the show and I think I just got my voice back. Steve was awesome on the guitar, and I found it funny how perfect he strives to be, he looked so pissed during "Taint Your World" when his guitar took a shit on him. i hardly noticed, cause I was just in awe watching and listening to Simon tearing up the skins all night, this guy is one of the best drummers alive. I will have more to say about the concert when I am done processing it all. I'm still buzzing about the night.

Exact same setlist as every show on this tour...they hardly ever change anything in their sets.

Falling In Between
King Of The World
Pamela
Bottom Of Your Soul
Caught In the Balance
Make Believe > Hold The Line

acoustic set:
Stop Loving You
I'll Be Over You
Cruel

Greg solo
Rosanna

Medley:
Endless > Isolation > Gift Of Faith > Kingdom Of Desire > Luke Solo > Simon Solo > Taint Your World
I Won't Hold You Back
Girl Goodbye

Africa (encore)

They played "Home OF The Brave" during the first part of the tour but dropped it sometime around July...no idea why, that song is amazing live. Other than that, the setlist hasn't changed all year.

As far as I know they dropped it at the end of July after the diagnosis of Mikes injury to shorten the set a little bit....

There's nothing quite like a concert high is there?
Thanks for your thoughts on the show.
Hope I get to partake in a show from them
someday.

Hmmm...that makes sense. They also dropped "Let It Go" before they ever got to the States, which is too bad, because Greg f'ing rocks. :) But I totally understand the decision now that it's in the context of Mike's injury. Mike is an absolute saint for doing all those shows this year despite his injury. (and still played his ass off all 3 times i saw them)

TOTO setlists

Postby lukather4prez » Thu Feb 01, 2007 10:51 am

I saw the chicago show and I saw the MIL. Wisc show last summer in july and I can tell you that a few songs changed.

Namely I have NEVER heard them do ANY ISO with Bobby since hes' been back. That july show had no ISO. They did also change up the other songs for chicago like adding ISO & I wanna say endless?? I can't remember at this moment but, those are 2 songs they didn't do before at any of the shows I've seen.

They did Gift Of Faith in chicago which they didn't do in July at summerfest!! Very cool to hear.
They did about a 20 min. jam after si's solo in chicago which I had not hear them do b4 greg, luke, si just burnin' and the audience was just flabbergasted...white gravy moment of the night!!

Bobby struggles some with the Joe Williams stuff its not bad but, Joe is just a different singer. bobbys got his style of singing and I just don't think (though I really enjoyed it) that JW songs are really his strong suit. but, I could be wrong maybe he killed them in MIL. the next nite. As awesome as he was in chi I heard he was that much better the next nite!!

so the improv jam for 20 min's or so, gift of Faith, Kingdom of Desire, isolation, endless?? and that funky new version of IWHYB were all different takes or songs that night as apposed to the summer shows.

Toto does switch it up sometimes!! I also am probably forgetting something as well, forgive me im old.

The July show in WI had to be shortened because it was a festival thing, and they're only allowed to do 90 minutes. So the first thing to go was the "Isolation/Endless/Gift Of Faith/Kingdom Of Desire" medley. Thus, Chicago wasn't a changed setlist, just the full setlist of what they'd been doing in the rest of the world. The Milwaukee gig was just a shortened version of the regular set they'd been doing...I'm just glad I got to see "Home Of the Brave" once.

So Toto is coming back to the House of Blues in Chicago July 17th, is anyone going? I ordered my tickets the other day, I can't wait. Toto's show last year was easily the best show I have seen in a long time.

I'll be there.

Thinking about doing Indanapolis too, but of course it's during the week, which really isn't convenient.
