SP is interviewed in this. Partially tells his side of the story. Clarifies that he does not hate Luke and claims any new lineup assembled will be amazing.

Wow, that article makes Lukather look terrible. I don't think he would've participated if he knew it was going to be a hit piece. Rolling Stone probably had a blast stirring him up and portraying him like that.

That's a great article.

They even got comments from both Steve P and Susan Porcaro. Well....the usual Luke says, she says...haha.

Think with Steve though, seems like he didn't put up any money to fight the lawsuit and wanted a piece of the pie which I guess didn't go down well with Luke (going to have to assume Paich too, or maybe Paich just follows Luke in all things related to the band).

I somehow got pointed yesterday to the infamous FB post by Susan's current husband defending her and it seems that this whole thing was seem to be triggered by Mike in his last days asking Susan to check into the band's affairs and that there were things going on that she should know about....excerpt from the post here :

"A few months before Mike died he told Susan some alarming things about TOTO. He had heard about a TOTO-Sony lawsuit that he and Susan were named in, without their knowledge. No one in TOTO, or their management, had ever notified Mike or Susan, until TOTO lost the lawsuit and Sony wanted money for their legal fees. Mike suspected something underhanded was going on. Susan promised Mike she would look into it for him, Jeff, and their families"

I think that's how it all started. Doesn't seem to me like she did for the money. But then again....who really knows. Always 3 sides to any story.

I think Luke's and JW solo albums are the closest we are going to get to a Toto record as we can for a long time to come.

I am certainly looking forward to tonight's show !

Luke knew it would be a hit piece...just like every article since 1977 has been. RS can suck it.

I actually find that to be a rather balanced piece, insofar as almost all parties concerned are represented (bar Paich). In these days of increasingly biased media you rarely see that, and you certainly don't see it in online chats, Facebook posts and so on and so forth by individual members, ex-members or whatever. This piece basically contains everyone's take on events, leaving the reader to make up his or her mind. And somehow I tend to think that everyone's pretty much speaking the truth. What seems to be lacking is any will to compromise.

I would like to hear Luke address Susan's reply. Otherwise, I have to agree - it was a fairly neutral article and good recap of TOTO history. When reporting on a lawsuit, it's basically journalism 101 to hear from both sides. Really wish Luke and SP had found a way to make it work.

Indeed. The journo had certainly done his homework in terms of the band's history, getting years and facts right. One could even be forgiven for thinking that the journo might even be a fan, Rolling Stone though his employer may be. Above all, he got his journalism right, acquiring statements from all sides of the table, as it were, even the rather elusive Susan Porcaro Goings. And it must also be said that nowhere else has Steve Porcaro made mention of demanding a share in the Toto brand. It is indeed one of those aspects of the conflict fully showing that there are two or more sides to it: Steve Porcaro having been an original member, contributed to every single Toto studio album and now the last standing Porcaro band member - Steve Lukather having taken part in everything the band's ever done and toured relentlessly, and basically carryied the torch throughout the 2000s. I can see why Steve Porcaro wants an equal share - and I can see why Steve Lukather wants a little extra.

Ultimately I only wish they'd make it work somehow. The 2010s was such a strong decade for the band, second only to their 80s heyday, and it was all down to there being a Lukather, Paich, Porcaro and Williams working so hard together.
