Ok, Help a Journey fan get into Toto

While I thought KOD was a good cd, it suffered from what the later Toto cds suffered from. A hook, something that made the songs or cds from this period really stand out-ERIC

Good call. Those are the two albums I'd recommend to a Journey fan. But Toto IV and The Seventh One are arguably the most "classic" Toto albums.

Toto has been my favorite band since 1982, but I hate KOD. What makes Toto great is the tension between the wall of keyboards and Lukather's shredding, but on KOD it's all shredding and I find that boring.

FIB and Isolation are my favorites and the first album is a classic.

Isolation SMOKES! One of my all time faves of theirs! Hydra and Tambu are quite excellent too! And Mindfields and Falling In Between spend ALOT of time in my CD player!

I have same opinion about Kingdom of Desire, it lacks the trademark of Toto which is changing moods and styles, KOD is pretty much same from start to finish. But this only goes to show that even greats fail sometimes.

*shrug* Am I the only one who thinks that, besides the title track and "Endless," Isolation is a really mediocre record? (with a really generic lead vocalist, no less)

The Seventh One is still the way to go, IMO as far as studio albums, but I'd get Live In Amsterdam before anything else...they sound better live than on any of their records.

To become a fan of Toto? Just come to one of their show, you'll be blowned!!!

I'd the luck to see them in Paris for The Seventh One Tour and it was one of the best show in my life!!!

A cult song for me,"Home of the Brave" where I play Air Guitar with friends who are also Toto fans!!! :mrgreen:

I've seen them this year also in march in Paris and they kick ass too with their new album!!!

A Toto fan since twenty years and also a Journey fan of course.

Deano, you can go to any Toto cd they all have great stuff on them except for maybe the covers cd-im not much a fan of any covers album--listen to their first one --hold the line came off of it -great song

Toto VI also..their best one..! it is to them what Escape was to Journey or Agent Provocateur was to Foreigner..It made them a house hold name! This is coming from a huge Journey fan! Those 5 are golden!

As mentioned elsewhere, Toto doesn't tour much in the States. When a friend and I saw that they were scheduled to play NYC last year, on a Saturday, in a smaller venue for about $35, we jumped at the chance!

We had never seen them before, so we didn't know what to expect. First clue that this show was going to be different was the overwhelmingly high ratio of men (of all ages!) to women in the audience -- about 85%-90%. Men don't usually gather in those numbers for just anybody. :wink:

Second clue: Once the band started playing, I don't think that a naked woman walking across the stage would have distracted those guys from the band. :shock:

(Ok, maybe that's a stretch.) :wink:

Toto's performance was easily one of the best shows that I had ever witnessed in my life. Although the stage was small, their sound, precision, and energy was simply incredible. One of the tightest bands around! The show was bearly over before I was vowing that I had to see them again.

I don't think you can capture that kind of feeling on any album... If they come anywhere near you, Dean, GO SEE THEM!

Trust me... You'll be saying "Journey, who?"
