Jeff's Last Taped Show (DVD)- '91 Montreux

Postby brandonx76 » Tue Aug 26, 2008 5:01 pm

Anyone pick this up yet? What a great show, definitely could tell they were having a good time. Interesting to see Greg Philliganes play keys on 'Higher'. This really should be released as a DVD, but for reasons that I'm sure have nothing to do with the music, or the legacy of the band, it won't be. There's some clips on youtube but the video is out there. Anyway, definitely check it out.

I've got this one as well, I haven't watched it yet though. I now have 50 Toto DVDs and I haven't even scratched the surface when it comes to actually watching them.

I've had the audio for a while, but never seen the show. When I found a couple of songs showed up on Youtube last month (including On The Run), I about crapped my Toto underwear, and had to find it. Watched it last week, great show!

Yeah I don't even know where that video footage came from. I didn't even know it existed until a few weeks ago.

All the Montreaux Festival shows are taped. There's been a whole series of DVD releases from it, dating back to the 70's and 80's. The version we all have is at least one or two generations removed from the master...the master is in a vault somewhere, and hopefully someday it will see an official release. I know the Toto guys are perfectionists, but it was a great set, and would be a fitting addition to the legacy, particularly Jeff's. (and would also help undo the fact that the only official live release with Jeff, from 1990, is pretty much awful)

search Youtube for 'Toto Montreaux' and you'll get most of the show.

I've seen parts of this show on YT without even realizing it.

The version of I'll Be Over You is killer here. Jeff owns on it. The mark of a great drummer - making memorable drum parts even in a slow, vocal/key-driven ballad.

Luke's also REALLY into it and sounds great.
