Finally bought a fuckin Luke guitar

Postby Ehwmatt » Thu May 14, 2009 2:03 am

I finally got myself a brand new Music Man Luke guitar in Ice Blue. FUCKIN beautiful. I can't believe how well this thing plays, how good it looks and sounds, and how right it feels in my hands. I'm just getting to know it, since I got it yesterday, but I'm already in love... and my amp needs retubing, so I've only heard it through my Digitech RP500 modeler! I can't wait to hear it through a genuine tube amp...

It really feels like I can get a huge processed 80s MR sound and clean right up to a Stratty neck pickup sound with ease. This is my first guitar w/ active pups and I gotta say, I love them. I'm goin to play some more now.

The SL20 pickups (EMG's designed for Steve) are great.....and the guitar is an absolute beast...it is probably only second to the Jimmy Page Les Paul in the quality of an artist model guitar, its that good....plays great, sounds fantastic and feels like a fine woman in your hands...(luke would have a better comment than that hahahah)

Congrats!!

I think the best measure of an awesome piece of gear is that it inspires you to practice more. I haven't wanted to truly practice this much since I got my first tube amp - all of a sudden I could sound loud and good - but I had to learn to play a lot cleaner for it to pay off!

This is only the second higher-end "hotter" sounding guitar I've owned. I bought a Parker Fly Deluxe a couple years ago and ditched that thing quick - it sounded lifeless. My $550 Schecter C-1 Classic blew that thing away. I've got two nice MIA Strats that I love, but they can't do everything, especially when it comes to MR style guitar. It's nice to finally have a hotter sounding, high quality axe.

I feel the exact same way about mine. It's an amazing guitar, it just feels like an extension of my hands.

What color do you have? Mine's Ice Blue. Some of the BFR color schemes are absolutely breathtaking, but I ain't that rich

It's silver...wanted the original Luke blue color, but the one I got was used for about $850 so at that price, I couldn't be too picky. ;)

I'm hoping someday I'll run into a similarly priced one in my preferred color and can buy it and sell the silver one.

Here's one from a gig a couple months ago:

Beautiful axe. Does anyone know more about the way Luke mods some of his personal guitars? I know he had a few guitars with passives in the neck and middle when I saw him last August.

I know he has one with a Fernandes sustainer (you can hear it on the extended solo out of "Kingdom Of Desire" on the 2006-2007 tour), other than that I'm not sure what else he has modded. I can't imagine it's much unless it's one guitar for a very particular tone or sound, since I can pretty much replicate the Luke sound on mine (at least from the guitar's end).

I concur. My Luke is like a "fine wine"...gets BETTER with age!

Thanks Luke for making this guitar happen!!!
