TOTO One-Off Reunion Show(s)

Postby The_Noble_Cause » Wed Feb 24, 2010 2:34 am

Thats what being reported over on the TOTO site.
Hopefully Luke or Andrew will weigh in.
My only guess is, maybe it's Bobby's new band and the promoter is confused?

On an actual Toto reunion...I wouldn't bet on it...last nail in the coffin if it is a Bobby gig.

Interesting, it looks like Luke has yet to deny it.

Another source is reporting that the lineup will include: Luke, Paich and even Steve Porcaro (!) in the band.
Luke's voice is a well-oiled machine from his recent solo dates, maybe he will sing lead?

Simon and Mike got to be there too. Would be sweet to see Jenny and Jackie there too.

Really doubt Mike will be there from the way things sound.
Personally, if they are going to re-form, even if only briefly, I'd like Joe and Bobby involved.

Wouldn't bet on Bobby given the history, but you never know... maybe just Joe? Real shame about Mike. Hope he's feeling better.

Wouldn't count on any of this happening...

What I wouldn't give to see them in their prime! Jeff, Mike, Paich, Steve, Jackie, Jenny, Corhillo(?) and Byron.

This seems to contradict everything Luke has said over the last few years, although if Paich & Steve P are involved, it would give him a "well, this really IS Toto" excuse/clause.

Then again, doing two weeks of shows alone would quite possibly pay for a good chunk of the production of Luke's solo record.....it always bummed me out a little that he seemed so adement about shutting the door on Toto so permanently, since Toto as an occasional touring entity could easily co-exist with his solo career. Then again, I DO understand him wanting to establish himself outside of the band, the whole "Here lies Mr. Toto" thing he always joked about, but then it seems kind of weird he'd do this.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out, especially in the singer department....it'd certainly be great for the Euro fans (lucky bastards) if it did happen though.

Joe Williams on vocals, reportedly... A few one-off gigs... oh, and Dave Hungate on bass. Some ball started rolling after Nashville.

Wow this is very interesting. I wonder if some of this is being done because of all the Bobby Kimball issues, kinda showing up the fake Toto billings as of late?

The Paich/Williams songs were some of the best.
Doubt this mini-tour will result in a new album, but who knows?

RockinReggie's recent interview makes it seem like Lukather has put alot of things in perspective.
Maybe he just needed some time away from those old hits?

Good point. Luke has sort of turned over a "new leaf".

Who knows?!

Go check the Live in Paris dvd on youtube. He was acting like a fruitcake, but Toto's vocals have never been as strong as they were with Jenny, Jackie and Byron.

Bobby just can't do it anymore. I heard them live on the last tour, and it was rough!

Fans have said that Byron's 'Live in Paris' vocals were fixed in post prod.
I don't know if that's true or not.
Judging by the Past-to-Present cd, I do think his vocals are better than given credit.

As for Bobby, he's hit or miss.
At 60 years old, I think the power and tenor-range of his voice is still pretty impressive.
This was filmed just last month.

Bobby is awesome, but if they want to get Bobby, then they need something to back him up.

Eh, I disagree about Greg. I thought he fit in just fine...him and some of the Toto guys went back almost 30 years, so even though he wasn't in the band, there was definitely a connection and good vibe there that wouldn't have existed with a more unknown/random keyboard player, regardless of skill level. Plus, Greg was a wonderfully kind and gracious individual the couple times I met him, and seemed genuinely thrilled about the gig every time I saw them.

He fit in musically, but he wasn't as good as Paich and it certainly didn't sound right with him on vocals on ANY tune. Compare Paich's solo on Amsterdam to Greg's. No comparison.

Andrew update from The Noticeboard -

"...not a reunion... line-up posted above is not entirely correct, but there will be a few live dates. You'll find out more in the next day or so...stay tuned..."

The front page says something about, "the reason for these live dates will be announced any day now."
Since when did TOTO, or any band, need a reason to tour? :?
With Steve Porcaro onboard, maybe the tour is in honor of his brother, with the proceeds going to science/medical research?
Just guessing aloud here.

I thought the same thing. Would much rather have Fergie Frederiksen in there than Byron. He actually did some things of note with the band on Isolation. I think Byron may be the darkest chapter in the long history of Toto.

It appears, sadly, my guess was in the ball park.
