I know this tour was billed as a "Greatest Hits" tour, but this DVD setlist leaves me cold. Boring.

1.Child's Anthem
2.Till the End
3.Afraid Of Love
4.Lovers In The Night
5.Somewhere Tonight
6.Pamela
7.Lea
8.Gift of Faith
9.*Keyboard Solo*
10.Africa
11.Human Nature
(Michael Jackson cover)
12.Rosanna
13.Georgy Porgy
14.Stop Loving You
15.Home Of The Brave

Encore:
16.Hold the Line

How shocking, it's the same as the setlist for the tour it was filmed on....which you also banged on about being dreadful (with precisely nobody joining in with you IIRC...)

Several posters over on the TOTO network had the same complaint. Since Joe's return, the band has been very selective about what they play - and not for the better. And in case you haven't noticed, nobody joins in on any thread on this forum. Place is dead.

Thanks. I just hope they don't compress the sound too much. Don't like the sound of FiB and All's well, they are way too loud IMO.

I wish they had done one or two more rarely played songs from the 1986-1988 era. Still, thay have sounded really good on these last two tours, including Joe. I've seen them live 6-7 times since 1988 and vocals were really good this time. The best since 1987 probably, though I never saw them on the Fahrenheit tour (I've heard the bootlegs).

True. It's a shame that while FIB the album is a great record and great production, something seriously went wrong in the mastering. I'm never able to crank it on my car stereo (and I'm on my second since the album was out) without distortion. It was mastered way too hot. Don't have this problem usually.

I remember reading an interview (or a forum comment on the Toto network?) with Steve L where he said they were considering "compress the hell out of it" (FiB). They surely did.

Correct.

And the litigation also ties up the Toto name for any potential studio album. So hope it gets sorted ASAP.

That's wierd. Luke and Paich founded the band - who on earth could possibly lay claim to the TOTO name (besides the urinal company, obviously). Is this lawsuit-happy mega-asshole none other than Bobby K or worse, a truly desperate JM Byron?

My guess would be Bobby, but what about the Porcaro's? Don't know anything about the legal stuff with the band, so who knows? Andrew???

What a piece of shit label!! I would love to see all of the artists involved with that shithole get as far away from him as humanly possible, and leave that pile of shit to rot in his own dust. Sorry, too harsh?

Oh for fuck's sake.

The compressed, distorted mastering on Falling In Between should preclude Frontiers from having any rights to future Toto material.

They had nothing to do with the recording or mastering of that album, and I can't possibly agree with you - distorted? It sounded killer.

It was compressed to the point of distortion on many tracks. The original recording was good but it's a tiring listen, even though muscially it's one of the best things Toto ever did. I don't know why they felt the need to make all of it so loud.

This is the waveform for "Taint Your World." Every time the blue hits the top, you get digital distortion. Not to mention listening to that level of dynamic absence for 40+ minutes at the appropriate level for rocking out. REALLY wish they'd done this one on vinyl, it would've been a very different listening experience.

Image

Just an FYI...it's really the kind of thing I've learned a lot about the last 5-6 years as I went back (virtually exclusively at this point) to vinyl and realized just how bad almost all modern CD's sound...it's why I have no emotions about the death of that format. [/img]

Remember that the software companies with few exceptions leave .5db in for headroom. It used
to be that SoundForge was one of the few programs that 0 was actually 0.

No, it's not. Even Mindfields was better. FIB has like 5 killer tracks, then alot of filler.
