favorite toto album and why?!

Postby toto4evr » Thu Apr 01, 2004 7:15 pm

whats yours? what songs wowed you or was it the entire cd???

mine is probably still " the 7th one" but followed closely by "mindfields"....

luke is brilliant as always but his total package of singing, rockin, songwriting is IMHO his best and most consistent to date!

and hey mindfields has "bubba" soundin' bout as good as a human can sound esp since he was 52 yrs old when they recorded the cd back in the fall of 1998!!!

on 7th ...joe williams proved then that he is one of musics best singers on rockers ballads and funky pop songs...multi-talented singer and a great songwriter (esp. with paich)!!!

toto, IS the best band on earth!!!

The only albums I don't like are Fahrenheit and Isolation. Probably more because of the cheesy 80's production than the quality of the songs. My favorite, today, is Tambu. Yesterday it was Hydra. Tomorrow? Who knows?

As a fan of 80's AOR, the greatest Toto album has gotta be 'Isolation'. Indeed, this album imo was one of the finest releases in the 80's. It had pretty much every ingrediant required for a great AOR album. Great Keyboard hooks, great riffs and great vocals. The songs are just 1st class.

I prefer Toto when they ROCK hard, and thats one of the reasons that releases such as Isolation, Turn Back and Kingdom Of Desire appeal to me immensely, whereas the debut, 4, and The Seventh One, don't.

Isolation are my favourite. Not 1 weak song on it and a brilliant voice of Fergie. It's on my top-10-list of records.

I think 'Seventh One' is probably my favourite right now.......followed by 'Mindfields', then 'Kingdom of Desire' but that can change regularly.
'Seventh One' is a really consistent album though, in my view......

Definitely Isolation for me. Although 7th one, IV and fahrenheit are really close, but energy and vibe in isolation remains unmatched.

I and IV have some all time classic songs but both of them have also couple of tracks that Im not so into (Georgy Porgy is terrible song I think). Isolation is the perfect AOR-album, there is nothing in songs or production or performance that I could criticise negatively.

Hey dude, Luke was born in 1957 according to his own website, which makes him 48 this year!!

he doesn't look nearly 60 years old, which he would be if he was 52 back in 1998!!

'Bubba' is Bobby Kimball, not Luke - and yes, there is a 10 year age gap between the two gents!

Tambu

I'm the only one so far who has chosen that one. I like The Other End of Time, The Road Goes On and I will Remember You. Less cliche's and more intimate writing IMO.

Favorite??? damn...tough one...

But I'll take a stab - "The 7th One"....Joseph sounded great on record, Jeff with great classic Mushanga" drum groove...Luke with two haunting ballads....and the legendary cut, Home Of the Brave

Ahh...the 80s.... :-)

Tambu is great, my second choice behind the harder edged Kindom of Desire.

KOD is my second favorite Toto CD. I love Luke's vocals, lots of emotion there.

Yes, Luke is my favorite Toto vocalist. I hate I missed the KOD and Tambu tours. His solo album, Luke, is awesome.
I am also glad Kimball is back with the band, and thought Mindfields had great moments.

My favorite songs off Mindfields were Luke's..... A Better World and Melanie

I'll have to hunt down the Luke CD.

What is it about the Luke cd that people don't like? I've never seen anyone else mention liking it. Andrew as referred to his first solo album which I thought was the worst of the three, I do like Candyman quite a bit. Luke was more modern sounding but I really dig it.

I'll dig it out of my "to sell on ebay" pile, and give it a relisten, and tell you what it is I HATE about the cd-ERIC
