MTV's first 50 videos - OT???

Postby ek88 » Sun Aug 14, 2005 6:57 am

Bugs posted the list on another thread. I'm curious. Out of all these songs, which ones do you feel have stood the test of time, in that they are still fairly universally recognized and/or garnering their fair share of airplay?

(You'll have to check out the Worst Band Ever to copy the whole list from bug's post)

Here are the ones I think have stood up:

The Who - You Better You Bet
The Pretenders - Brass in Pocket
REO Speedwagon - Take it on the Run
.38 Special - Hold on Loosely
REO Speedwagon - Keep on Loving You (maybe)
Phil Collins - In the Air Tonight
Rod Stewart - Tonite's The Night (maybe)

I left both Styx songs off (although I debated with Best Of Times since I've heard it in a couple of movies) because I NEVER hear them on the radio anymore  Nor do people seem to be as familiar with them as the Grand Illusion tracks along with BCM, Renegade, Lady, etc. Keep in mind, this is totally subjective and your experiences might vary greatly from mine, which is what I'm curious to see . . . . . . . .

By the way, I expect everyone's list to be fairly small, with the ulterior motive of proving that ever since it's inception, MTV has been obsessed with showing disposable crap! (Styx songs notwithstanding, while I'm having my cake and eating it, too) :D

Too bad you can't hear our 80's (and more) rock station here. I swear Styx is played almost every hour. I just heard "Rockin' The Pardise" not too long ago. I'm trying to get them to add "Castle Walls" every day - love that song!!

See, they just played "Lady" tonight, you can see what's played - LOL

Pat Benatar - You Better Run
The Who - You Better You Bet
The Pretenders - Brass in Pocket
Styx - Rockin' the Paradise
April Wine - Just Between You & Me
REO Speedwagon - Keep on Loving You
Phil Collins - In the Air Tonight
Styx - The Best of Times
Fleetwood Mac - Tusk
Talking Heads - Once in a Lifetime

Styx - Rockin' the Paradise
.38 Special - Hold on Loosely
REO Speedwagon - Keep on Loving You
Phil Collins - In the Air Tonight
Styx - The Best of Times

As much as I liked some of the songs on that list back...well for me, these would be the ones that still hold.
