Life After Styx

Postby classicstyxfan » Thu Aug 18, 2005 12:09 am

OK, so most of these guys are closing in on 60........and they can't play forever ( can they ? )

So, since Todd is so much younger than the rest, what becomes of him, and his 15-20 years of musical viability when JY and TS are resting comfortably in the place of their choosing ?

Does TS call it a career if his elder JY hangs up the guitar ? or will that be the beginning of round 3 for Glen in Styx ?

and finally, when that day comes, will this message board die a slow death ?

hmmmmmm...........

DUDE!! Keep the glass half FULL!! Tommy is only(almost)52! Look at the Stones. Eric Clapton. Paul McCartney. All over 60 and still going strong! We have at least ten good years left! :)

Classic -- there is just no way to know. I think as long as Current Styx and Dennis have the vocal chops, and 3 or 4 people will pay to see them, they will keep on a'playing.

I don't see any of them losing the ability to play the guitars, keys, bass, whatever. I think those skills stay with you forever. It is the singing that can often go south with age. (Of course, in the case of Gowan, who will notice??? :P . Ok, sorry! I..... just....could.....not....resist)

This board? Slowly die?? :? Probably.

Just looking to stir up some Styx conversation.....it's been in short supply here lately.

since YOUR glass is so full, how much more new music do you think the boys have left in them ?

It's hard to say. IMO...I think the problem with new music is that artists and bands could write and make new music indefinetly. I think that once you have that ability and talent, it never ends, much like mentioned above with the ability to play. Whether the public outside the die hards will notice or care is quite another. Take my example of Paul McCartney above. I love Paul, and I"m going to see him in concert in Oct, but would I buy his new album coming out in Sept? Probably not. There are certain artists out there that as long as they keep pumping out new material, I'm there, but is there enough to sustain a career for the long run? Hopefully, they have had a successful enough career to be able to put out new music and not have to reply on the finacial aspect of it doing well to continue.

While the examples cited above are all true, I don't see them touring for the next 10 years. Just as I don't see DDY doing that either. I think each will continue for the next 3-5 years at the pace they are currently at. Then I think each will reassess their professional goals.

As for Todd, I'd imagine he'd find work fairly easily. And if he and the wife decide to start a family, who knows what his priorities would be.

Hopefully they will each put out new music that makes them happy. And as much as JY may want that "Santana moment", I think they will be just fine if they don't get it.

As for this board, yeah I think it will die a slow death. So enjoy it while it lasts

Well, if it comes down to never having anything about Styx to talk about(God forbid!), we'll all take turns going to Chuck's hotdog joint in Florida and writing reviews! :P

Actualy, Elvis is living very comfortably on Mars with the "real" Steve Perry, who was abducted back in 1984 and replaced by the 'fake' Steve Perry. But, that's another story.

LOL - I'll try to find the quote, but JY said they're going to keep touring until they have to scrap them off the stage - LOL The "never-ending" tour will never end. I'd give it about 25+ more years

As for this board? All my kids will be in school within 2 weeks, I'm going to be working in the home (LOL) and I'll have way Too Much Time On My Hands, so I should be around here for the next 20+ years. You should all know by now, that I always have a lot to talk about - LOL
