Lordofdaring is safe and sound with family in Atlanta GA. We evacuated from Slidell Louisiana from Katrina's path. I was wondering if anyone has heard from Eric from MS. His area took the direct bullseye from the storm.

LODR, glad to hear you and loved ones are safe........NO one has heard from Eric since before the storm.....in another thread , her spoke of getting the heck out of the path of the storm......

New Orleans appears to be pretty much destroyed.....Yikes !
I hope your property came through relatively unscathed.

LOTR. Glad you hear you and family are safe. What a royal mess that storm has left!

No word from Eric. I know he and his family left, but what will they have to return to? We probably won't know for at least another week.

Keep us up on what is going on with you when you can.

New Orleans is the adopted home town of my family - and my wife has family that lived and grew up in the city.

The last surviving member of her family living in the city was her Grandmother who passed several years ago. We've made a pilgrimage every year since as part of our family vacation. We were in New Orleans 6 weeks ago.

We stayed in a hotel with a kitchen in the room to save money on food - and the place we shopped was a Walmart store very close to the hotel on Tchopolous Street. It is this walmart that has been all over national television as the poster child for looting and criminal activity since the breakdown in the system and the decay into anarchy.

Today.... I'm sad. I'm sad for a city that I have a lot of love for - for people that are (on the whole) beautiful and kind - and the history that is in the process of being destroyed. The house my wife's grandmother lived in was in Gentilly..... which is under about 30 feet of water. No doubt the house has been completely destroyed.

Today is a sad day.. it's time to mourn for what is nearly the complete destruction of one of America's oldest and most historic cities - and the death of many of it's poorer citizens who had no means to escape.
