New album?

Postby Guest » Wed Oct 26, 2005 1:17 am

With the Big Bang Tour winding down, the last show is November 19. And it looks like they are off the road until late Feb. Do you think they will be working on a new album? I haven't heard any reports. But as I understand, they were putting songs together before the idea for Big Bang came up.

This seems like the right time to be putting something together.

I'm sure they have a few songs done or close to be done, IMO

I think Tommy will be working promoting the new cover cd with Jack Blades. And I'm sure there are a few other projects or guest spots Tommy is working on for 2006.

Actually it's pretty sad. There are a lot of Styx boards and Styx groups out there and the past few months they've been pretty quiet. No reviews, no excitement, nothing. Even this board is pretty quiet, there's really nothing about Carrot Styx, Current Styx or whatever, that anyone even wants to talk about or promote or anything.

Anybody been to a recent Carrot Styx concert or are planning to go to one this year yet?

styx will release a new album long before dennis does. he needs to have his wife write another book to release his new music in it.

Guest #3 or are you either #1 or #2 that has posted? I'm so confused

That's great if Carrot Styx releases a new album!! Then they can add a few more new songs to their set list. That would be wonderful :D

I think both will have something at some point next year.

Until then, we'll continue to argue

we'll all be in assisted living before EITHER side releases a full length CD......

Hey, since Styx likes to follow trends in the industry, could a CD of Styx doing 40's/50's "Standards" ala Rod Stewart be looming on the horizon ?

Think of it !!!

New York New York........ L.Gowan Lead vocals
My Way JY Lead Vocals
Somewhere Over the Rainbow TS Lead Vocals
The Lollipop Guild........

YOu get the idea !

In all honesty, while I'd love to hear new music from Styx, those songs are more Dennis' style. I'd just assume have DDY release "10 from long ago" than nothing at all. 10 on Broadway was a great album for him and they suited his voice fine. I'm in the something is better than nothing camp, and I would just love to hear Dennis' voice on something new for him. There's nothing wrong with a cover cd if its a bridge to get you to the next new material.

I am with you on this one, NH. Being such a fan of Dennis' voice, I would take anything -- new, old, in-between -- from him right now.

Remember. Rod Stewart has released, four, count 'em, FOUR, CD's of so-called "standards". A LONG way from rock.

10 On Broadway, Part 2? Fine with me!! :D

Welcome back Darren and hopefully Leesa!! How was your wedding?? Any pictures??

I would love to hear Dennis record the whole song "Whole Lotta Love", that's my favorite cover from him. If he did cover's like that, I'd be happy. :D

Yes indeed welcome back. Hope it was wonderful.

As for Dennis and covers...since he has such a great way of mimicry...well how could he go wrong.

Me, I am a patient woman. Whenever any of them are ready to put out new material, I'm cool with it.

Styx will probably take some time off to recharge their batteries. I'm sure they will be working on some ideas to present for their next studio album. Now when they will find time to record it, I don't know.

If they do record and release a new album, they will need to work with the record company to properly promote it. It seems the younger generation are getting into the groups from the late '70's and '80's. Just my opinion an observation on that.

Rank in order of probability in 2006

Postby classicstyxfan » Tue Nov 15, 2005 11:33 am

I'm bored, nothing new is happening in either camp, so lets speculate about next year.......if you want to play, rank the following scenarios for most to least likely, or just comment on whichever you want to ......

- A single reunion show featuring Styx with Dennis DeYoung

- The Retirement or departure of any Member of Styx

- A new serious Health Problem for any member ( Past or Present )

- A new Studio CD featuring original & prevoiusly unreleased music from Styx

- A new Studio CD featuring original & previously unreleased music from Dennis DeYoung

- The release of the Unauthorized Styx Biography

You're bored? LOL

Here is what "I" think :)

- A single reunion show featuring Styx with Dennis DeYoung

Yes, one show in the Midwest, DeYoung & Shaw

- The Retirement or departure of any Member of Styx

Yes, not sure which one at this time. Probably because they're sick of being on the road 360 days a year with Styx. This person will be approached by a different well known band (due to an untimely sickness or death) and will get paid more and be less on the road.

- A new serious Health Problem for any member ( Past or Present )

Boredom and Traveling, could be any of them.

- A new Studio CD featuring original & prevoiusly unreleased music from Styx

Well, there are songs recorded that are in a vault, basement or shed that will hopefully see the daylight soon. Not sure how many, but there out there.

- A new Studio CD featuring original & previously unreleased music from Dennis DeYoung

I predict Fall of 2006. BUT "I think" he will be playing one or two new ones during the 2006 tour.

- The release of the Unauthorized Styx Biography

Spring 2006 (?)

Well, Classic, I have about as much knowledge on placing these as I would if I closed my eyes and tossed them into the air and let them fall as they may.

My wild guesses would be:

1 - New studio album from Styx (but the fact that Tommy did not mention it in his latest note, may or may not, be of significance)

2 - Release of the Styx Bio

3 - Retirement or departure of a current member of Styx. (has happened before. Could again.)

4 - New studio album from DDY (Some hints he has given in interviews lead me to believe later rather than sooner)

5 - Ill health of former or present member (Always a possibility)

6 - Reunion? I think (and HOPE) not.
