12 days of Christmas

Postby Abitaman » Sun Nov 27, 2005 10:54 am

Any of you got the CLASSIC ROCK CHRISTMAS cd? It is pretty good. Styx has a good song, as does Survivor, and a couple others. But the highlight is the Shaw/Blade's version of the 12 Days of Christmas.
If you haven't bought it, do. It rocks pretty good, and the vocals are awesome.

Also good, but in a different mood is DeYoung's song too.

I like Chicago's Christmas cd, very true to some of the songs, yet put a good Chicago style to the songs.

Just ordered Kevin Chalfant's Christmas cd, let you about it when it comes in.

Anyone else got any good Christmas cds or songs out there?-ERIC

Hmmm.... love the version of "I'll Be Home for Christmas" DDY did on the Today Show.

One of my favorite CD's (and Christmas specials) is "A Charlie Brown Christmas."

Others on my Christmas mix CD:

Silent Night - Barbra Streisand
Father Christmas - Greg Lake
A Wonderful Christmas Time - Paul McCartney
I Wish I Had a River - Joni Mitchell
So This Is Christmas - John Lennon
We Need a Little Christmas -New Christy Minstrels
The Christmas Song - Nat King Cole (I think the definitive version of this song)
Mary Did You Know - Kenny Rogers and Wynonna Judd
My Grown Up Christmas List - Kelly Clarkson
Merry Christmas Darling - The Carpenters

Many other traditional favorites but too many to go into here.

YES!!! Another CI fan?! Loved the Christmas album! Thanks for reminding me...time to deep that gem out!

(But Suite, pick ANYTHING by Chris Isaak and you will love it! If you need me to burn you something from him, let me know, I've got them ALL.)

I'll have to take you up on that, please. I would really appreciate it. Tonight would've been great to play his music. I'm limited to about 6 cd's and 4 Dvd's. I hate these decisions on what to buy, there's so much great music out there.

Chris Isaak has that voice, just something very sexual about it. When he comes back to town I don't know if I could see/hear him in concert

Oh gosh, there's just a few male singers or songs that just do that

Anyway, back to Christmas songs.............................. fast (LOL)

As much as I can't stand most of her material, I really do enjoy "All I Want for Christmas is You" by Mariah Carey. In fact I think it's the best song she ever recorded. I would also recommend the 1st (yes thats the first out of THREE!) Christmas album by Amy Grant. It was released before she had crossover popularity and has an intimate feel to it.

Now see, I totally dislike her rendition of that song. But then I am not a fan of Mariah Carey.

Will have to think about my choices.

The "A Very Special Christmas" series is always nice
Kohl's has Songs for the season cd that is usually pretty nice (2003 had Rob Thomas)
Vince Guaraldi - A Charllie Brown Christmas
Burl Ives - Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (all those great claymation hits)

Bing Crosby is always a nice pick for traditional type music

I have the Rob Thomas single "A New York Christmas", love that song. I just put it in right now.

For the holidays as a tradition on my husband's side, we have play the cd's of Bing Crosby, Buck Owens and Nat King Cole. Also in the mix is Elvis, the kids love his music for the holidays :) I always add one of my favorite Christmas cd's by the Carpenters.

I like Mariah Carey's music, don't care for her that much. Love the song "All I Want For Christmas Is You". Amy Grant has such a nice voice too.

I wish Styx with Dennis did a Christmas cd, I think that would've been great!!! I don't care if they were covers or originals. Just hearing Dennis' Christmas songs and Tommy's!!!! 8)

You would think with iTunes around now, that all the bands would release some type of Holiday single.

I love digital downloads and the ability to cherry pick Christmas songs from different artists and create some nice holiday CD's.

It would be cool for more artists to release one or two Christmas songs, NH. I like that idea.

Ok, now I'll need YOUR address. I'll send you the Christmas one and one or two others I think you will like. My sister and I saw Chris at Tinley Park in 2002 and at the Orpheum in Minneapolis in 2003. SOOOOO GOOOOOD! In Minneapolis it was the last show of the tour and afterwards, since it was such a small venue, he signed stuff if you bought it at the merchandise table. We couldn't get pictures with him because they wanted to keep the line moving, but his whole band came out took pictures and chatted up a storm! It was a dream come true!!!

Vince Vance and the Valiant's version of all i want for xmas (done before Mariah's) is still the best.

I like Charles Brown and the Eagles version of Please come home for xmas, the music from charlie brown, grandma got run over by a reigndeer by elmo and patsy, white xmas by Bing, Blue Xmas by Elvis (complete with the most imitated back up vocals in history) and DDY's songs from the Today show tape.
