More song ideas

Postby Zan » Wed Feb 15, 2006 2:36 am

Hey all - in similar fashion to what Leesa posted a couple weeks ago, I thought I'd try my luck here and see what comes out of it. I'm looking for song suggestions for our wedding - it could be during the reception, ceremony, or anything in between. hey, you could even throw in suggestions for the karaoke after-party.

My dad & I are supposed to sing a duet too, but we haven't chosen a song yet - altho, we're leaning towards "Unforgettable." Any ideas for solos are welcome too. No sound is too weird to suggest. We HATE the typical traditional "Here Comes the Bride," "The Ass Cuts the Cake.," etc.

You're getting married?!? (and that is NOT meant to be derogetory :) ) Congrats Zan, I have been out of the loop for quite some time.

Looking for Styx songs, or just good wedding songs?

When the DJ announces that dinner is served he could play food glorious food from the musical Oliver.

The first cut is the deepest when you do the cake.

I'd prefer they NOT be Styx songs, actually. I will probably have the DJ play "Yes I Can" and "Paradise" at some point during the reception, but that's about it. Plus, our table names will most likely be Styx-related, just because it's corny, and we love corny.

Yes, I'm getting married - in less than 2 weeks, no less! I didn't take it as derrogatory at all! Now, if Froy had said it... ;-)

I can't remember if you are a fan of Dan Fogelberg, but gosh, "Longer" is such a great wedding song. Corny. But awfully pretty.

Congrats again, Zan.

Well of course here down under we like any Olivia Newton John ballad - How about "I honesty love you"

Of course I would also recommend the Bee Gees and "How Deep Is Your Love?"

They are both filled with Cheese!!

Do us all a favour and take lots of pictures!

Congratulations and best of luck!

I already gave up my best suggestions to Leesa........if you want a recap, I can gladly give it.

One I may have forgotten previously is the Eagles "Love will keep us alive" T.B. Schmidts vocals are simply awesome ! and I love the Lyrics.

at any rate, wishing you a wedding day that goes off without a hitch and exceeds all of your expectations !

Wishing you and your lucky man a wonderful day celebrating all that are together.

As for songs...hmmm...I always liked A Long Time Ago by Jim Croce.

Or Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye...several versions of this one...Neal McCoy's is my favorite.

Or At Last by Etta James (Cyndi Lauper does a beautiful version of this song)

Certainly given that you are a Barry Manilow fan there must be something of his that you would enjoy.

Celebrate and enjoy. Many happy years to come.

Wow this is good news Congrats!
Hope your day is a fabulous one and that your
honeymoon is even better!
May your marriage be filled with many years of
love and lots of laughter!

I have always liked Always On My Mind by Willie Nelson
and a new love song I really like is Dierks Bentleys
Come A Little Closer.

Thanks, everyone. Sadie, I will be singing "At last" at the wedding, and "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye" is a wonderful song! Paul loves oldies too...Good call. I have to really go back and read these posts...I know there are some gems in here. Barry Manilow, well, natch! Gotta get at least one Barry in there. Prolly Burtnik's "Someday" as well.

Good suggestions...Ever Since the World Began, however, was my "first dance" song at my first wedding, so I have to pass this time. ;-)

It does not get any better than "We've Only Just Begun," imo.

Karen Carpenter was remarkable.

My sister sang "You Take My Breath Away" and "Teo Torriate" by Queen at my wedding 23 years ago. Not the most uplifting songs granted. But pretty cool none the less.
