Legendary American rock band STYX
This is simply ridiculous to say that this lineup is a Legendary American rock band.
There a bunch of guys who without the name Styx would be playing bowling alleys.
Its going to be a laugher when they pull out the Dennis tunes now thats a copycat band for sure,
"We have not done a show with an orchestra since 1996. This should be a real special event,” says James “JY” Young of Styx.
Is this the same Jim Young who said that an orchestra was not what STYX was all about ?
How can anyone take this guy seriously."The fact that we in Styx, who have been making records since the 1970's, have gained a new young audience for our music, is amazing to me.
If he ever does release a new CD I know the name STYX will be plastered all over it.

Legendary American rock band STYX will team up with Cleveland’s Contemporary Youth Orchestra (CYO) for an unforgettable concert performance on Thursday May 25th at the Blossom Music Center in Cleveland, Ohio. This evening concert is part of the CYO’s ROCK the ORCHESTRA series that study and perform orchestral selections written or adapted by rock and roll musicians. The CYO will join Styx in performing their classic Top 10 hits including Too Much Time On My Hands, and Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man), along with such fan favorites as Come Sail Away and Renegade, as well as songs from their latest album Big Bang Theory, such as their recent radio hit, a re-recording of I Am The Walrus. This very special Styx performance is kicking off the five day Blossom BBQ and Music Festival scheduled for the Memorial Day weekend.
"We have not done a show with an orchestra since 1996. This should be a real special event,” says James “JY” Young of Styx. "The fact that we in Styx, who have been making records since the 1970's, have gained a new young audience for our music, is amazing to me. We truly think this is going to be a special night, where the orchestra will have as much or more youthful enthusiasm than the rock musicians. Anyone that has seen our VH1 ‘Behind The Music’ knows of the band's dysfunction years ago. The 2006 Styx line-up though, has found a way to put the FUN back in dysfunction...!!! It's going to be a night of powerful music and powerful FUN...!!!!! I can't wait....!!!
Styx’s Tommy Shaw adds, “Imagine this--a 115 piece orchestra with a 40 member chorus, all between the ages of 13 and 19, performing two hours of our STYX music with us. The excitement is down right palpable. This experience has been electrifying to us ever since we were invited by them several months ago. Let’s hear it for music education!”
“Styx understands the value of sharing the magic – we are looking forward to dramatically expanding our universe through this collaboration, says Liza Grossman, Director of CYO. “CYO is filled with brilliant musicians and this marriage with STYX is going to be a concert that will inspire people for years to come. We are fanning the flame that ignites the energy for continued music education.”
“Styx is a long time favorite of Blossom Music Center concert goers. We are thrilled to have them return for this historic performance with the Contemporary Youth Orchestra,” says Tim McGrath, Regional Director of Marketing, House of Blues Concerts, Midwest. “It’s a win-win for all involved; the Youth Orchestra gets the experience and education of performing with one of the most acclaimed popular touring artists (Styx), fans get to hear their favorite hits performed with orchestral arrangement at the summer home of the Cleveland Orchestra and the members of Styx get to be the conduit to it all.”
Funded in part by the George Gund Foundation the Kulas Foundation, the Ohio Arts Council and the Plain Dealer, CYO’s ROCK the ORCHESTRA project celebrates music education and the convergence of classical and popular music. This educational endeavor gives students the opportunity to explore how an interest in popular music can be applied to classical music performance studies. Previous CYO concert collaborations have included guest performances by Jon Anderson, Pat Benatar, Graham Nash and Ray Manzarek. This concert will be recorded for an upcoming television special.
Tickets for the May 25th performances will go on sale Friday March 24th at 10 AM through Ticketmaster Charge-By-Phone: 216-241-2121 or 330-945-9400, at all Ticketmaster retail ticket centers, via ticketmaster.com, and the Blossom Music Center Box Office.
The award winning Contemporary Youth Orchestra (CYO) is a nonprofit youth orchestra, based in Cleveland, Ohio, USA, and is in residence at Cleveland State University. CYO is the first and only youth orchestra in the country dedicated exclusively to the study and performance of contemporary orchestral literature. By the end of the 11th season, CYO will have performed 42 world premieres, all with the composers present. CYO is the recipient of the prestigious Northern Ohio Live Award of Achievement: Classical Music/Opera Category.
Styx was the first band to have four consecutive triple platinum albums (The Grand Illusion, Pieces Of Eight, Cornerstone, and #1 Paradise Theatre). Since their debut in 1972, they’ve also earned double platinum, platinum and five gold albums. Lady was the first of 16 Top 40’s, among which also includes Blue Collar Man (Long Nights), and Fooling Yourself. The video for their 1981 Top 10 single Too Much Time on my Hands aired in the first hour of MTV's life. Big Bang Theory, released in May 2005, features their hit remake of I Am The Walrus, and charted at #46, making it the fourth consecutive decade that Styx has had an album in the Top 50.
After a 1999 metamorphosis, Styx re-established itself as a dynamic live act over the course of 600-plus shows and four new live albums. Tommy Shaw (vocals, guitars), James “JY” Young (vocals, guitars), Lawrence Gowan (vocals, keyboards), Todd Sucherman (drums) and Ricky Phillips (bass guitar, backing vocals) will continue to tour the world, having performed more live concerts than the previous 20 years combined. Original bass player Chuck Panozzo also appears on the album and performs live with the band at select concert dates.
Is it just me or are these press reports always written now with a bias against Dennis?
Examples
"Top 10 hits including Too Much Time on My Hands and Foolin Yourself"..
Huh? "Too Much Time" was Styx's LOWEST charting top 10 single at #9 and Foolin Yourself peaked at #29.
"Video of Too much Time on my hands played in first hour of MTV's life" Uh..who cares?
No mention of 3 top 10 singles in three different decades. No mention of the band's biggest hits Babe, Show Me The Way, Mr. Roboto, Best of Times. Don't Let It End etc. I am surprised they were able to stomach mentioning Lady and Come Sail Away. And of course, what would a Styx write up be without Blue Collar Man?!?
Lots of mis-information being put out there by this version of Styx. They really do think that they can alter history by simply not mentioning those things that they aren't into.
It really is quite funny.
If I remember correctly DDY’s live CD reads…The Music of STYX.
And his Broadway CD had a sticker on the cover with the word STYX on it as did his 3 other albums and his greatest "HIT" CD.
It would be imposable to see the cover of a new DDY CD since there is not a new CD to see.
Probably never will be unless it’s a live CD or a CD of remakes with one or two new songs on it that he will be selling from his basement along with a new book from his wife who I wouldn’t be surprised to see listed as singing back up on the songs.
"Video of Too much Time on my hands played in first hour of MTV's life" Uh..who cares?
I don't think Suzanne's next book will be ready when this cd is released. I don't recall there will be "remakes" or "cover" songs, even though I really would love him to remake "Whole Lotta Love", do you think he'll do that??? I want that !!

SuiteMadameBlue wrote:Hey smarty pants, (I'm being nice), LOL, yes scan the sticker. I have to see this.
Nice song selections, NOT!!
I think he would do a fine job on those songs..ChicagoStyx: Did you ever hear Dennis sing "Whole Lotta Love" ????? Did you ????????
If not, let me know I'll send it to you
I never knew he recorded it. I would love to hear it!BTW, did you know that "Jimmy" kid from H.R. Pufenstuf died recently?? That used to be one of my favorite shows when I was little on Saturday mornings.
Actually Suite, His Ultimate collection had a sticker on it saying "The Voice Of Styx".. So I would believe what ChicagoStyx is saying is true.
ChicagoSTYX wrote:Yes, there was a sticker on the plastic wrapper of his Broadway CD. I’ll try to get a scan of it for you.

It's the same thing that happened with BBT. When Styx released the CD/DVD, the same thing will happen yet again.
What's the point of talking about Styx here if this is how it always turns out?
