I think Styx tried to grab the first graders with that Music Time video.

must have worked. you're STILL talking about it.

And Froy is still talking about Gowan after 7 years.......for someone who does not care about the current Styx he sure is still talking about it.......and no i do not prefer Gowan to DDY........I have said all along that if DDY could write the classic material he is capable of then ide love for him to be back in Styx....but apart from Show Me The Way and Roseland his offerings have in my opinion been awful since Paradise Theater.

And you bash Dennis this morning for what reason may i ask?
Your boy Gowan was bitch slapped yesterday so you need to fight back?
Darren you can't look anyone in the face and say that Gowan is a good singer he is trash
He should go back to his solo career.

if people was to see that video or hear that song as their first introduction to styx they would drive over a cliff.......

They already drove off that cliff when they heard Gowan sing Doctor
They must have said this Dennis Gowan stinks
Of course they are so young they don't even know what they are talking about. But thats what current Styx wants new fans that are clueless.

how can someone who has wrote some classic songs bring that idiotic garbage to the table....no wonder Tommy jumped ship

High Crimes is garbage Music Time is a fun tune
Shall I dig for another Christmas tune by JY?

Speaking of awful Christmas tunes did you get the freebie when you bought Suzanne's book ?

What the hell are you talking about Darren
When was the last time Shaw wrote anything close to Fooling Yourself , Lights Blue Collar Man ect.
When was the last time JY wrote anything good
When was the last time Chuck wrote anything period
Don't spit on Dennis and point the finger at him just becuase of some stupid excuse.
By your logic everyone in the band should be replaced,

Actually I Think One is a great song BUT if Dennis produced it and played on it This song would have been a masterpiece Instead its just a good song there best effort without Dennis

As far as Dennis not writing a great song since PT
You are so way off on this one.
What you do not like is they are all ballads

Esmerelda Is the best song Dennis has ever written
Paradise is right there with it
While There's still Time fantastic
With Every Heartbeat is great as well.
Good bye To Roseland just amazing

That is more than Shaw and JY any day of the week.

Dennis is writting some high qaulity gems
Im sure his new cd will be great

I frankly found the "Walrus" video far less imaginitive and a lot "worse" than Music Time from several perspectives. They tried to rip off the effect Apple has used to market the iPod and combine it with cheap effects to give it a 60's feel to obscure how old they look - and it came off looking like a cheap imitation. Which, when you think about it, is pretty fitting.

Remember that song "Video Killed the Radio Star?" That was pretty accurate, considering that MTV hurt the careers of bands with average-looking folks in them like Styx, REO, etc.

Music Time is a terrible video and an average song. I just don't get the moon-men. Having closeups of the four ugliest bandmembers surely didn't help!

You know, that never occurred to me! Of course, if it hadn't been for Mtv, fugly bands like Dexy's Midnight Runners and Flock of Seagulls would never have even made the American charts!

I thought Music Time was an aweful song and a horrible video to boot. But the WORST video EVER done by Styx or a member of Styx has to be the Pat Benetar inspired JY's Wild Dogs In The Night. That is By FAARRR the worst video I have ever seen.

Best Styx or members of Styx videos:

7) I Am The Walrus
6) Love Is The Ritual
5) Heavy Metal Poisoning
4) Mr. Roboto
3) High Enough
2) Havent We Been Here Before
1) Show Me The Way- GREAT GREAT video!!

Got to agree Show Me The Way is by far the best video Styx or any member of Styx has done.......I also liked Where You Going Now by Damn Yankees another good one but Show Me The Way should of been nominated for a Grammy....... if Bon Jovi or Aerosmith had done it then it would of been.

One could argue that of all the songs on Cyclorama, Tommy's contributions are the WEAKEST. Glen Burtnik is the star on that album and JY's These Are The Times is strong too. Outside of OWE, Tommy's contributions to Cyclorama are pretty weak IMO.

I never saw the video for Where You Goin Now. I really liked the song, and always felt that 'Dont Tread' was a GREAT GREAT album.

I am one of the few who liked it better than their debut. Mister Please, Silence Is Broken, Fifteen Minutes Of Fame and Double Coyote are all EXCELLENT tunes.

Don't Tread had a few bright moments... but it sounds like they got pushed into trying to rehash the first album.

Looking back on those two records, they sound really dated - even though they rocked at the time.

That's because the record executives decided that the public "wanted to hear" grunge instead of hair metal. Otherwise, we'd probably still have bands like DY today. Nothing against grunge, I enjoyed a lot of it, but it was definitely over-saturated. Of course, without it, the execs would have had to actually start paying the bands they signed a few years prior, and we couldn't have that now could we?

Well I think that hair was on it's way out before grunge - but grunge was the nail in the coffin to hair metal like new wave was to disco. Doesn't make it "right" but it just makes it so.

Don't Tread wasn't a very good record ... likely could have been made better by some better production. It's funny because on their promo video for that album it showed Tommy, Jack and Michael harmonizing in a men's room... when thats EXACTLY how that album sounds... like it was recorded in a Men's room. It also wasn't as lyrically good as the first record... although lyrics weren't so much the point with DY. Best tracks on that album were Uprising (which is a classic if it wasn't so damn over-produced), Mister Please, and Fifteen Minutes Of Fame (best on album even with the production). This Side Of Hell just absolutely sucks. :)

I actually thought Don't Tread was superior in almost every way. The mix sounded a TON better.

Dude, pass the crack.

If you put those two albums side by side with virtually any producer or mixing engineer Don't Tread would win hands down. The mix on the original Damn Yankees cd was absolutely horrific. There are several obvious phasing problems with the drums. The bass is non existent in many places. I love the first cd from a songwriting perspective but it's production was not even close. In fact the diff between the two albums was discussed by the members of the band in one of the recording mags I subscribe to. I may have the back issue. If so I'll post it.

IS THIS THE WORST VIDEO EVER SHOT AND SHOULD THE GUY WHO WROTE THE SONG BE HUNG BY HIS BALLS FROM THE TALLEST OAK TREE IN AMERICA FOR BRINGING THIS MONSTROSITY TO PEOPLES EARS...?

No, not at all because the same guy also wrote all the best and classic Styx songs.

They can't all be winners.
