STYX, DENNIS, MARKETING, AND PAST MISTAKES

Postby yogi » Fri Oct 13, 2006 2:11 am

I have been thinking about this for quite some time. This is what I feel can get Styx back together.

If the band does somehow get back together marketing will be huge and avoiding mistakes past has to happen for the band to thrive in this new market.

Here I go........

1. Dennis has to realize he was a major cause of the Styx breakup. He and the bond JY once shared together has been broken. Someone has to step to the plate to mend this bond. It needs to be Dennis.

As an act of good faith Dennis needs to let JY and his family use their villa in Italy.

JY needs to accept Dennis's kind offer whether he wants to go or not. This will show Dennis that JY is willing to meet Dennis half way.

JY has been running his mouth for years. He needs to come to that realization. To show Dennis that he is truly sorry he needs to go pick up the villa key dressed as Dr. Rightous.

Finally on Dennis's behalf of the problem every solid Styx fan knows that JY carried Dennis for years. JY wrote or co wrote many songs that Dennis later claimed as his own. JY never said a thing, he just sat there and took it. Dennis needs to lock himself in a room and write the ultimate ballad that JY can give to his wife on their anniversary. JY will claim this song as his own and all will be forgiven as far as songwriting credits go.

Suzzanne( Dennis's wife) now needs to enter into the equation. Her Behind The Music rant became almost cultlike in North America. The country song Stand By Your Man shot up to number 1 in Canada one week after the Styx Behind The Music aired up there. Her Tommy induced rage was the reason behind this songs revival. Executives at VH1 swear that the Behind The Music Series lasted a year longer than they projected because of Suzzanne.

As happy as VH1 was with Suzzanne, her quotes hurt Tommy and JY.

What Suzzanne needs to do is have a bucket of Dr. Rightous Fried Chicken prepared and ready for JY and his family on their return home from Italy. Maybe she could also clean JY's home for a couple of months too. Finally, she needs to give JY and also Tommy autographed copies of her now famous book. These books need to also include Dennis's song to Suzzanne in them.

2. Tommy Shaw has done no wrong. He needs to never apologize to Dennis or anyone else. What Tommy could do for diehard Styx fans is that if Styx EVER gets around to putting out a Greatest Hits package he could include his version of Come Sail Away on it.

3. Marketing- The world LOVES Roboto!!! How can Dennis, Styx or their braintrust not realize this????
Halloween is just around the corner. Every Wal Mart, Target, Best Buy, whatever should be stocked with Roboto Masks. Damn near EVERY kid boy or girl wants to dress up as a Roboto.
If the stores run out( damn it,damn it) or your child has been bad make them dress up as Jonathan Chance.

4.Back in the the late 70's, Early 80's Styx had a tour problem that kept thousands of young fans in the midwest(Chicago area) from attending their concerts. Band management knew this problem was occuring, yet did nothing to stop it.

If Dennis were to get back with Styx this issue would have to be addressed immediately.

Styx today needs young fans. Back in the late 70's parents were forced to keep their young children away from Styx concerts. What was happening at these midwest shows was that during sing along type Styx songs their was one overzealous fan. This fan would follow the band all thru the midwest. Styx management referred to him as KY. This pissed JY off to no no end so finally Derek Sutton agreed to just refer to this fan as 'Lefty'.
What I am trying to say without offending our sensitive readers is that the left hand really didnt know what the right hand was doing.

The real problem was that EVERYONE in the rows around them knew what the left hand did.

5. Finally, I would like to have Glen in Styx from here on out. Gowan??? I have read that Glen will need a driver in the future. Enter Lawerence Gowan. I have heard Lawerence is an 'excellent driver', and that he gets his underwear at K Mart( Oak & Burnett) in Cincinatti Ohio.

We are getting further away from K Mart and every day that passes is getting us further away from a Styx reunion.

The above along with the syrup being on the table gets Styx back together and keeps the band alive for years to come!!!

Any other suggestions?????????????????

I know your post was a joke (or if not, seek professional help). Comments anyway.

Never going to happen. DDY has actually been very honest in his role for the most part - and has admitted many things around Kilroy. But to say it was all DDY is bullshit. JY wanted DDY out as early as 1979. The band took him back for 20 more years. No sympathy.

Yeah, Tommy has NO blame. None. NOT. He's just as guilty as everyone else here, and has the worst business sense.

DDY markets with Roboto stuff at his concert.

In 1983 maybe. In 2006, no.

And what problem was this? The one you described is a joke, not a problem.

Ummm, I think the initial post was an attempt at humor and not to be taken seriously. I thought it was pretty funny and quite creative.

Yogi,

Truly yours is an amazing intellect. I would never want to get into a battle of wits with you. The only way out would be to offer you one of two glasses filled with wine. One of which I would tell you is laced with Iocane powder. Since I have built up an immunity to it, I would lace both glasses and hereby assume my position as biggest wise-ass in the Styx board.

Seriously though, funny read. :D

We are one day further away from K-Mart. We are also one day closer from a band members auto keys being taken away from him.

What will happen when Dennis or another Styx member wakes up one day and will ONLY fly on Quantis Airlines?? I for one can not afford to go to Austrailia for a concert.

The Time Is Now To Take My Wares Into..................................... Whoooo, I mean The Time Is NOW for the band to get back together.. Every day we get further away from K Mart!!!!!!

Finally, I hate to disagree with a guy called Styx Collector who had a Styx website but.......... Roboto masks would NOT of sold well back in 1983. As for today??? I believe Dennis and Styx are cult hereo's.

In 1983 Roboto was a funny but nerdish song. The ONLY reason that song shot up to # 3 was because of the name Styx. Most Styx fans at the time hated that song. That song was 25 years ahead of its time. Today, Roboto is cOOL with a Kapital C.

For $19.99 you get a Roboto mask, and a CD copy of Mr. Roboto backed by Come Sail Away. Roboto goes NUMBER1 in about 4 weeks with Come Sail Away charting in the top 10 again 9 weeks later.

I am not a Styx Collector or marketing exec, but I did stay at a Holiday Expresso( o for Tommys coffee fetish) last night.

Yeah well sometimes, in spite of my education, I slip into illiteracy mode. My apologies.

I think Styx/Dennis could make a ton of money on Roboto masks, especially during the Halloween season. I would buy one. What an easy costume.

I just wish that they would make a replica to sell to fans similar to the one used in "Caught In The Act". It would a nice colectors item to own and a piece of Styx Music History and probably a Piece of Music History. Roboto has been in everything from Volkswagon to Ausin Powers.

I don't know about a ton... there were 2 types of masks. One with the lights and the stage masks in CITA (the live part). AFAIK, there were 2 with lights. I have one. DDY has the other. (Thanks eBay!)

There were about 10 of the stage masks, and that's it. Tommy made his into a lamp.

If you saw it in person, it's much less impressive. It's just some thin plastic with some makeshift wiring hooked up to 4 AA batteries.
