8 seasons of touring? How many shows is that?
Hello Friends,
We're in Atlantic City, New Jersey today, performing here tonight. We
were back at it again last night for the first time since taking a
break a little over a month ago. We were at Penn's Peak in Jim
Thorpe, PA, a place that's become a real favorite of ours. After an
intense summer schedule it was all new again and fresh for us after
being away.
After eight seasons of touring as constantly as we have, going back
home and not being part of a production every day, or traveling to a
different city every day is a bigger adjustment than you might
imagine. For those who have families at home who are used to us being
gone, it's an adjustment for them too. Speaking personally, it was
good to go do some normal things. Jeanne and I went up to Oregon
where the salmon were just beginning to run upstream and the fall
colors were cranking. We went fishing one day and caught just enough
to feed ourselves a few fine meals of fresh salmon. I did a decent
job on the grill considering there were some fairly strong breezes
whipping around and the fact that I had not managed a charcoal grill
in longer than I care to tell you. That's just my point. I think
everyone enjoyed getting the chance to just be. Trips to Target, Home
Depot, you know, all that sort of thing. Even for well adjusted
people, to be on the road as much as we are, being managed at every
turn by very competent people, it's easy to become somewhat
dysfunctional in the every day world. But we do all right. We all
agreed that by the time we left for PA a couple of days ago we had
become fairly domesticated and were prepared to be released into the
wild again.
Our new DVD has been getting tremendous reviews and turning lots of
heads. If you were there on May 25th, you know what an amazing night
it was. Well, I think we captured lightening in a bottle and you will
be able to enjoy this one night for the rest of your life now.
Over the years we have filmed and recorded quite a few live
performances. But, we've NEVER had one like this. Check it out on
HDNet on Sunday, November 19 and then on PBS in December. The DVD
hits the streets on November 21.
See you soon.
