Promoting CYO

The Styx marketing juggernaught is at it again.

2 Christmas songs recorded and no iTunes or similar release. There's also no official release of these that would allow you to play them anywhere other than the dvd. How Stupid is this??

In another vain,

What would your feelings be of Styx, stripping off the orchestral mix from the recording for a song or two and bringing it on the road with them to play live with. I understand that the orchestral mix would be canned, but is this a possible better way for them to promote the cd/dvd?

I saw this with Queensryche with their latest tour for Operation Mindcrime I and II. They have canned orchestra stuff for their stage show and it worked musically. Parts of it didn't work as well as others, but that had more to do with the visuals than the audio. Don't underestimate how hard it is to do this and still maintain a concert feel. You can't do a whole lot of ad-lib riffing and such when you've got a track to keep up with.

I wouldn't do it for the whole show, but maybe as a mini-set within the show for 2 or 3 songs together. I thought Miss America and Don't Make Sense were probably the most powerfull, (but I don't think back to back JY songs make sense).

They also recorded 21 songs with the chorus, but there is obviuosly a number of songs missing that didn't make the DVD that could also be used.
