Rock and Roll has lost one of it's defining voices... especially of the 1970's and 1980's. This is a truly sad day.

One of the great vocalist, who doesn't usually get included in a list of great rock vocalist. Not only was he a great vocalist, he was a true, genuine, down to earth, real human being who did tons of charity work and lives a very modest life.
Shit, we lose those who led positve healthy lives and the assholes of the rock biz who have lived very unhealthy selfish lives keep on ticking.
Too bad shit like this doesn't make JY quit being such a angry old man. Groups like Boston, Styx, Supertramp were in their own right as far as what they wrote about. Too bad JY doesn't choose to live his life in a positive light as most these songs represent.
Boston proves that you don't have to write about bullshit stuff to make it. You can write about good stuff and live a descent, normal, positive, healthy, giving, caring life and be a success in this biz.
Too young for such a all around kick ass guy to die. Bullshit.

It's really sad. Brad was supposed to play last night with his other band Beatle Juice. His voice was nothing less than heaven. To think he used to make heating coils for Mr. Coffee.

We have lost one of Rock's purely great singers and human beings.

I am sure Brad is taking center stage for the house band above.

I was fuckin' serious about hoping things like this wil 'cause JY, or anyone to not be so bitter and live life as it was meant to be.
I know for a fact that JY has read these boards from time to time, so I included him in my post about Brad, for him or anyone.
It was what came to mind as I was thinking what Boston meant to my life.
I hope everyone, including JY lives their lives as the words of Boston music say.

Hello Friends,

As you might have heard, Brad Delp, the man whose voice launched a thousand ships loaded with Boston's unmistakable Rock Anthems passed away yesterday at the all too early age of 55. We were all deeply saddened by this news and had been looking forward to seeing and hearing him in concert this summer. While there are few details, the simple words of his passing are enough to let us know that his place in the band of angels is confirmed.

We will all miss him. He was THE most unaffected superstar vocalist I ever personally had the opportunity to meet and spend a little time with. He was naturally gifted and we will always be able to enjoy his earthly contributions to the soundtracks of our younger days whenever the spirit moves us by slipping in the Boston CD of our choice.

Our sympathy goes out to his family, band mates, friends and to all Boston fans world-wide who most certainly share our feelings today.

I shook hands with Brad after an RTZ concert in New Orleans many moons ago. Great show, they even did a few Boston gems. He seemed like a very genuine down to earth guy.

I'm not going to pretend Mr. Delp's death has had any impact on me, as I have never been a Boston fan nor an anti-fan, but it is sad, nonetheless, when a human being is taken at such an early age, particularly one who was apparently well-adjusted and good. My heart goes out to his family, friends, and fans.

I met Brad after a show in 1991. Here's that story:

After all the activity for Boston's Third Stage(1986) died down things seemed to go
quiet again in the Boston Camp. By now, I was used to not hearing any
Boston news for long periods of time. I would hear different
conflicting reports: Brad was still there, Brad wasn't still there,
Tom was working on a new project, Brad and Barry Goudreau were working on a
new project, etc.
On the evening of August 20th, 1991, a friend and I were heading
home from seeing The Little River Band at Bethlehem Musikfest in
Bethlehem, PA. Suddenly, the Lehigh Valley rock sation we were
listening to said, "Here's something from RTZ, the former guys from
Boston" Then "Face The Music" blared from my car radio. YEAH, great
to hear Brad singing a new song on the radio again! Love that WHOAH!
on the chorus. Mr. Delp was back!
I bought the tape and liked it. Not quite as good as a Boston
release but great to hear Brad and Barry playing together again.
When they were announced for a show at the Chestnut Cabaret, I made
sure to get down there that night! When else would I get the
opportunity to see Brad and Barry perform in an intimate setting such
as this and perhaps MEET them?
Only two Boston songs were performed, Long Time & Let Me Take You
Home Tonight. But I knew that they were anxious to promote the new
stuff at this show(as any new band would be) There were 2 girl back
up vocalists. I believe one of them was Lisa Guyer(Barry would later
contribute to her Lisa Guyer Band projects)
In the middle of the show, Brad suddenly ran offstage mid song to
run around the club. He suddenly stopped right in front of ME! I
shook his hand and said "How's going, Brad". "Great", he said and ran
back to the stage.
After the show, there were several of us in line to go backstage
including some radio contest winners. The bouncer just told me to
pretend I was with them. Then were led backstage!
What can I say? Talking to Brad was like talking to an old friend I
hadn't seen in awhile. He smiled and said hello and that he was glad
I came out to the show. We talked about everything, from Boston's
first tours to the Third Stage Tour. He said that running around on
those huge stages was tiring. You had to really be in shape! I
mentioned the stage moves tips he'd gotten from someone. He said
that he didn't feel comfortable moving around like Mick Jagger. I
told him I loved hearing those high notes. He laughed and
said, "Only problem is, Tom wants me to sing like that all the
time!" I asked if he was still going to be working with Boston in the
future but he said that he had no plans to do that at the present
though he still had the utmost respect for Tom. The December 1988
tour dates in Canada had been his last with Boston(which would've
meant that he left about early 89) He believed that David Sikes would
now be handling lead vocals for Boston in the future. I told him that
I could see him going back to them at some future point(turns out I
was right!)
I went on to tell him how that first Boston album was pretty much
the soundtrack of high school senior year for me. In fact, for the
next few summers after it came out, you could walk from one end of
the Jersey shore boardwalks/beaches to the other and never LOSE that
album as it was being played in every head shop, shirt shop, souvenir
stand and out of every car window. Brad said that The Beatles "Sgt
Pepper" was the album of his high school years. "The Beatles were my
gods", he said. "Well, you AND The Beatles were my gods!", I
laughed.
By this point he was even pulling out his wallet to show me pictures
of his children. I wanted to stay and talk even more but the bouncer
who'd let me in was giving me a look that he was hoping I'd let the
next people in line have a chance to get up there so he could go
home. I thanked him for putting up with me and getting me back there
in the first place. I then bid a reluctant goodbye and shook Brad's
hand.
As I was leaving, I chatted with Barry briefly asking him if he'd
had much contact with Tom since he'd left Boston. Barry said hello to
me and told me that he hadn't had talked to Tom much after leaving
the band.
What else can I say but it was a thrill to meet some of my high
school heroes!

"He gave as long as he could, as best he could, and he was very tired. We take comfort in knowing that he is now, at last, at peace."

Delp, 55, died Friday at his Atkinson home. Fiancee Pamela Sullivan found him.

Toxicology tests by the state medical examiner's office showed that Delp committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning, said Lt. William Baldwin. Delp also left two notes taped to a door and letters to his family and Sullivan.

Baldwin said police do not know the contents of the letters.
