Classic Rock Mag Styx Cardiff show review .w/ Deep Purple

The first time this writer saw Styx live was in El Paso,Texas,on their GI tour in 77.Back then the crowd was full of crazed Mexicans lighting bonfires, and the show climaxed with a swordfight on stage(between band members, not Mexicans). In many ways Styx's Cardiff show was equally bizarre.
It was difficult to tear your eyes away from Gowan,.G's keyboards were attached to a podium ,and both had the ability to swiwel through 360.
But ,whaddaya know,Gowan's shameless showmanship grew on us.He played the keyboard solo to Fooling yourself with his hands behind his back.Attaboy.
Styx have a generous back catalogue and it was to their credit that overblown classics such as Miss America,CSA and Renegade stillsounded fresh and exciting. They threw Styx beachballs into the crowd at the finale and,to everyones relief ,didn't play Babe.

Jesus loves you ,but everybody else thinks you're a knob.
