Debuts at #17 on the Canadian Soundscan charts

Postby blt man » Thu Jun 28, 2007 2:46 am

After its first week, One Hundred Years From Now has entered the Canadian Album Soundscan Charts at #17. I don't know if this is considered a good showing or not but figured some of you would be interested.

Is this the whole album or just the song at #17?

I would think that is great news.

This is good news for DDY. I don't expect it to stay top 20, but the fact it even charted is impressive.

And I can guarantee you that it's because of the sales in Quebec. There has been NO mention or radio play of anything else off of the DDY CD up here in the rest of Canada.

I will say though that there are LOTS of copies out there in Wal Marts, Future Shops, Best Buys and HMV's here in Canada. It just goes to show how DDY's label is pushing the latest release, where as Styx's label is pretty much only pushing the DVD, because that's all I seem to find in any of the stores I'm going to.

Where in Alberta do you live? You know DDY is playing during the Stampede.

Tomorrow, we can see the soundscan charts by City. I suspect it will hover around #5 or #6 in Montreal and Quebec city and not be on the charts in any other major Canadian city. As for the rest of Canada, I presume the CD will get a bigger push outside Quebec if and when one of the other songs are released as a single (and radio is willing to play it). Releasing the french/english duo as the first single alienates it from the rest of Canada. Last year DDY was on Canadian Idol. I presume they won't take the same singer 2 years in a row, but playing a show like that during the top 10 would help. If he can get himself on sometime during top 10 at the end of july or in august, he may be able spur sales outside of Quebec.

I live in Edmonton..

Yes I know he's playing during the Calgary Stampede.. for $99 bucks (plus taxes/Ticketmaster fees) and the "Chrome Lounge" at the Deerfoot Inn And Casino.

Last year I saw him for $40.

I won't be going this year.

Plus, Glen won't be there as well.

If Dennis wants to chart coast to coast, he needs to release single #2 ASAP..

The Soundscan sales by city have been released. #4 in Quebec City and #8 in Montreal. That is really impressive. Them Quebecers love DDY.

You know what gets me, is that even though I live in Montreal and am very much enjoying his popularity and get to go to concerts, I'm originally from Nova Scotia and I've always loved Styx/DDY. So, it's not just the Quebecers!!! It's just that Quebec (and Ontario) has the population base to make a difference on the charts. (Why do you think a Quebec girl won Canadian Idol?)

Sorry mtllady, I live in Ontario and like DDY, but it is a Quebec thing. Soundscan charts sales in individual cities including: St. John's, Halifax, Quebec, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, London, Winnipeg, Regina, Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver. Of all those cities, One Hundred Years From Now (the CD and not the single) has only charted in Quebec and Montreal. In the other cities, its sales do not put it into the top 20. If Save Me is released and if (and thats a big if) Top 40/soft rock/ and/or easy rock stations play it outside of Quebec, I am sure it will boost CD sales.

I can tell you right now that Save Me might only get played on two stations here in Edmonton (Joe FM and Easy Rock). The station that brought Dennis to Edmonton last year is a Classic Rock Station and very rarely plays new material by classic rock bands.

The CD is available here no doubt, but airplay here, that's going to be a different story.

Jodes - Americans don't know the difference between the provinces.

I presume he was referring to the fact it is playing in Quebec. Actually, it is receiving so much airplay there that it is ranked #69 on the Billboard 100 Canadian charts. While that does not sound very impressive, it is, considering it is only playing in one province and is the only song with French in the top 100.

Songs from Styxworld, Cyclorama, Big Bang Theory and CYO have been on the radio here in Edmonton (CYO as recently as last week), while as Jodes says, "Froy, it's NOT on the radio here."

Quebec has their own music scene, most often, totally different than the rest of Canada, but as it does have a large population, it skews the stats somewhat...

I don't hear anything Styx or DDY related in Toronto. :(

Whether or not it scews the stats, the song and album are a huge hit in Quebec. Certainly a feat for someone who is not french. As i said before, American's just are not familiar enough with our country to understand.

Which I guess the same could be said for DFB eh? What did we hear from the two new songs from CYO? (echoes)... What did we hear from Cyclorama (echoes).

You act like nobody cares specifically about Dennis - when in fact - nobody cares about any of them save for those who have been following them and those in general who have an interest in music down through the years.

Listen, I know plenty care about Dennis. I am being silly, just like a certain someone else here who responds to posts about someone enjoying the current Styx. Example of one post...."Will anyone be going to the Styx show this coming Saturday in Rochester? " Example of a post in response....."No one will be there. JY and TS are finished". So doesn't my response of ..."Nobody cares" sound very similar and just as stupid? I'm the counter balance.

Jazz, not to "nit pick" but which station in Edmonton played songs from Cyclorama? The only station I knew of in Alberta that added "Waiting for our time" was Lloydminster.

I know K-Rock played almost all the Edmonton Songs from Styxworld for a while too, and was probably the only station in Western Canada to play Walrus on a regular basis.

As for CYO.. I'm actually stunned that it's getting any airplay at all.. Is that CAM FM that played it last week Jazz?

I know K-Rock had a contest to win the CYO DVD, but that's about the extent of their promo for it.

Hi, Jodes,

K-Rock played some of the Cyclorama songs (it's been awhile, so I can't recall exactly which ones, but it was one or two of the more classic ones), though not often.

I was stunned when I heard CYO on the radio, too. I only caught the end of one song, and I can't even remember which one. It was K-Rock, during Melissa Wright's show at lunch time.

K-Rock and CAM (thanks to Nick) are the best bets for more recent Styx, definitely. Joe-FM plays Gowan, but not Styx.
Jo.
