Where Were You On 7-7-77?

Postby Everett » Sat Jul 07, 2007 8:10 am

I know I wasin't even thought of yet so I wasin't doing anything. But where were you guys? Did you purchase the record on the first day or did you wait to hear it on the radio and then buy it? How much did you pay for it? Do you still have the original record you purchased? And how soon did you see the band after it was released? Just more curiosity from me as we move in closer on the 30th anny of this awesome record.

I know exactly where I was .
In Copenhagen I was on the 7th floor of 7th floor buiding with a big balcony .I had the family over celebrating my 18th bithday.
Nobody got hammered but my grandfather knocked over an antique chinese vase.
After thet we gave hime a couple of semi playboy mags to keep him busy so he would not fiddle with our nice stuff.
Anyways.GI was not released on said date in Europe.
I do not remember the date of release there, but I do remember I was sick around the time it was releasedand did not go to school ,and I kept calling the best store in town for when it was in.
When they said it was there I jumped on my bike and picked it up.
Put it on a real to real to real and played it non stop for 3 days.
Now, it was a bit of a dilemma.I listened and listened but it just could not live up to Equinox.
To make me feel better ,I went back to school a couple of days earlier than I probably should have.
Jesus loves you ,but everybody else thinks you're a knob.

I was in Cape Cod, Massachusetts at the ripe old age of six. I wouldn't have an inkling about Styx for at least another six years.

I was probably seeing Star Wars at the theater for the umpteenth time that summer, since I was only 7. I didn't get Grand Illusion until the 1990s!

My mom's 43rd birthday. I had just graduated from high school and was not even thinking of Styx since Come Sail Away would not start getting any significant airplay until the fall. Styx, I figured at this point was probably going to end up being a one hit wonder who'd done that excellent song Lady.

As I related in my last post, on July 7th, 1977 we were celebrating Mom's 43rd birthday. Sure wasn't listening to, or even thinking of, Styx. My friend Dan and I walked down to the corner and everyone was just sitting there bored. We laughed and said, "NAH", and went back to Dan's house. He threw on some Black Sabbath albums.

I didn't get Grand Illusion until 6-7-8...well 6/7/78.....I received as a gift on my 19th birthday.

I was 13 years old probably babysitting one of my million cousins (Catholic family - what can I say??) and saving up the money to buy 45's ...

Geez, at least I wasn't pouring milk in my sibling's guitar! LOL!
