Just got back from Styx/Foreigner/Def Leppard

Postby DerriD » Thu Aug 23, 2007 1:56 pm

Good night all,

Just got back from a great show in Charlotte. A near sell-out crowd on a Wednesday no-less. If you are on the fence as to whether to go or not, I highly recommend the show.

First off....I LOVE Styx! My favorite band by a country mile. Second... I actually like Larry. That being said, our once glorious band has been reduced to an opening act for an opening act. Yes, Styx opened for Foreigner, who opened for Def Leppard. Sad thing is... Foreigner kicked Styx's ass.

Yes that's right Foreigner ruled the night. They sounded better even than Def Leppard.

As much as it pains me to say (and Styx sounded great) they are at best an opening act anymore.

I recommend you see the tour (we got Chuck for 4 songs!!!!) but keep expectations low.

7 songs is all we got (BCM, Too Much Time, Grand Illusion, Ms. America, Come Sail Away, Fooling Yourself, Renegade).

Still, all in all well worth a lawn seat.

Not being a big Def Leppard or Foreigner fan why would I go see Styx only play 7 songs. I have seen them so much in the last few years anyway. If they play a 2hr show in my area I will go check them out. Opening act band? Are they an opening act throughout most of the year? No. The idea of this tour is to play to thousands of fans that would normally not go to a Styx show. If they pick up some new fans along the way, great..job done.

Fact: Of 3 bands, they played first. Sounds like an opening band to me.

I was an unbeliever about the 'new' Foreigner. This live group absolutely kicked ass! My wife and everyone around us was blown away at how incredible they were. See them if you have a chance.

I'm sure I'll get another chance, hopefully :)

Hopefully they'll be here for a solo show in the winter (indoors) or I'm sure next year at Summerfest. I'd rather see them outdoors.

Styx and Foeigner swap the first and second slot on the bill. Set lengths are supposed to be the same.

Foreigner does kick ass.

I know what you mean! Styx has played in my basement twice in the last three months without me even knowing about it!!

I totally agree. I consider myself a huge Styx fan (current line-up included), but, when I saw the show, I felt Foreigner and Def Leppard blew them out of the water. I will give the guys the benefit of the doubt since they were first with a half filled amphitheater (at best) and little of a noticeable light show (since it was still light out). Regardless, I think it would really, really, REALLY do the band some good to take a year off and/or at least change the set list a bit. They seem to be getting too much into auto-pilot.
