Dennis DeYoung - One hellava voice!!!!

Postby BRETT5150 » Tue Aug 21, 2007 10:53 pm

I've become a real big fan of Styx in such a short time. I got into them through Damn Yankees 2 albums, then got into the "Return to Paradise" album, then to "Cyclorama". Then bought the Styx/Reo Speedwagon DVD and the "Return to Paradise" DVD.
It was'nt until I got the "Come sail away anthology" that I was really hooked.
Then I saw the "vh1 Behind the music" special.
Really, this band has been through it all.
Its even made me order the "Grand dillusion" book through Amazon, I Just wanna know more about this amazing band,

What I cant get the most is how they've gone about their buisness with Dennis DeYoung and going foreward without him.
Sure, I wont know the full story until I get the book, but how can you replace such a singer. This guy reminds me of Freddie Mewrcury american style, without all the flamboyance and camp showmanship. I mean, this guys voice is crystal clear.

I know he sounded like a control freak during the bands height of fame, but surely, knew what he was doing and got the best out of everyone.
Basiccly, in my opinion, Styx have done the wrong thing by this guy. On "Behind the music" he says basiccly, the band continued on behind his back while he was "sick" and needed more time. Does Styx think theyu are bigger than him? If they are, they ar'nt doing much of a job.

After seeing Patrick Goohwan (Whatever!!!) singing "Lady", I think its a disgrace. Its like Kiss going on tour and letting Eric Singer sing "Beth".

Sure, I love Styx, with and without Dennis, but without him and after hearing the "Come sail away" CD set, there is a big hole in Styx.
Man!!!! This guy can sing.

"Suite madam blue" is in my head every minute of the day.

Yes Patrick Goohwan is a disgrace
He cant sing his way out of a box
Tommy Shaw and JY are in the I'll show you phase
They think they can make music without Dennis well the numbers say otherwise.
Dennis just did a show in Canada and 40 thousand people were in the crowd
He was the headliner,
Those numbers speak loud and clear.

40,000 people? He has not played in any venue in Canada that can support that number.
If you are talking about the festival he played this weekend, none of the people who frequent this board who attended indicated anything that large. I support and like Dennis, but lets tell the truth here.

40 thousand people were there and thats the truth
Why would I make up such a number ?
If I was lying why not say 60 or 80 thousand?

I'm really sorry Froy, but someone's telling you stories. There's no way there was 40,000 people at that concert. It was PACKED, but not 40,000.

You know, that is one thing I have frequently thought myself, but never really heard mentioned until I read your post. Occasionally when listening either to STYX or Queen, I'm startled at the similar quality of Dennis' and Freddie's voices. Freddie was kind of like Dennis but completely wild and out of control. Not necessarily a bad thing though, as he was certainly one of the best rock vocalists of all time.

Also (and pretty much off topic here), just on occasion Billy Joel's voice and cadence (?) remind me very powerfully of Paul McCartney.

You've certainly discovered STYX late in the game, but we're certainly glad you did!

Wait, someone who likes Dennis & the
new STYX also? Yep!
