Donna Summer and Nile Rogers were very influential to the music of the 70s... we are going to see a lot of sub-genres being represented in the RNRHOF. it's not onlyRNR anymore. not that i agree with all the nominations, mind you.

Only a few more years and all the grunge movement bands will be eligible. The Hall is a joke plain and simple. Other than Styx, I can't believe bands such as The Moody Blues, Yes, Chicago, and Rush are not in the hall. Also why is Neil Diamond not in the RRHOF, seriously this is a crock.

They maybe need to re-think the name of the Hall of Fame. "Rock and Roll" doesn't really fit IMO, since it is only part of the music being honored.

Grunge at least fits the description of "Rock and Roll." When rap comes roaring in -- ugh.

I understand they have a prejudice against Styx and probably Journey and even Rush, but the Moody Blues and Chicago generally were well-received in their day. It is amazing that they are not already in.

Of course bands like Styx are not going to get in. It's all political and is really meaningless. Unless things change within the organization of the Hall, Styx and bands like them are never going to get in. I don't really care.

From Wikipedia...I agree with The Sex Pistols...

The main criticism is that the nomination process is controlled by a few individuals, such as founder Jann Wenner, former foundation director Suzan Evans, and writer Dave Marsh, reflecting their tastes rather than the views of the rock world as a whole. A former member of the nominations board once said:

At one point Suzan Evans lamented the choices being made because there weren't enough big names that would sell tickets to the dinner. That was quickly remedied by dropping one of the doo-wop groups being considered in favor of a 'name' artist ... I saw how certain pioneering artists of the 50s and early 60s were shunned because there needed to be more name power on the list, resulting in 70s superstars getting in before the people who made it possible for them. Some of those pioneers still aren't in today — but Queen is.

There are very few progressive rock bands in the hall, with Pink Floyd being the only true progressive rock group inducted. This has been noted by the columnist John Sinkevics, who notes the genre has more fan backing than any other.

The Sex Pistols, inducted in 2006, refused to attend the ceremony, calling the museum a "piss stain."

Jy and Jann Wenner (founder of the Rock Hall) have some bad blood between them for whatever reason. Unless they can settle there differences, Styx will not make it if Wenner has anything to say about it.

Comparing the RRHOF to a piss stain is an insult to the various stains of piss in this world.

They should rename it, "We the critics know you did not listen to these acts growing up, but you should have" Hall of Fame. How else does Patty Smith get in. WTF is Afrika Bambaataa? Looks like somebody closed thier eyes and hit random keys on the typewriter. Dave clark 5? How bout Hermans Hermits, they had more hits. I thought Madonna was in already. Mellancamp is the only one that deserves it.

I have seen more than one negative press item on this year's crop. Good! They deserve it.

Most agree that some of the nominees this year are pretty ridiculous. Many differ on who should be nominated instead of the likes of Donna Summer and Chic, but all agree that the nominees should be, you know, rock and roll.

That is a great article. I subscribed to Rolling Stone for years, because at one time they wrote good articles on music. Now, like MTV, music is the last thing on their agenda. Just look at the front covers, it is usually a politician, actor or worse a rapper. The article hits the nail right on the head, cancel your subscription and boycott the hall of shame.
