Tommy in Australia!!!???

Postby BRETT5150 » Mon Oct 08, 2007 10:38 pm

Ok, I know Styx has never toured Australia, but a friend recently who runs a record shop and is a Styx fan is certain that Tommy was here in Australia, sometime in the 80's. He said he was on TV playing the mandelin. It could've just been a promo tour, who knows. But I'd love to know if my freinds spot on or hallucinating.
By the way, what solo album is Tommys best work, so I can purchase it on amazon first. I'm kind of steering toward "Ambition" first.
Can anyone help me though on the Australian visit, and if it happened, please give me some info.

Yes, Tommy visited Australia either in 1979 or 1980, when "Boat on the River" was out as a single worldwide. He played the song on some popular TV show there. He actually posted about this a few years ago, that he did not know the beer there was so strong, so he drank a few and wound up with a monster hangover that took all day to get rid of; he was afraid it was going to ruin his TV appearance, but in the end he went on as planned. I think there's even a picture floating around somewhere from that show.

Hope all is well.

hey brett! welcome!

looks like sterling answered your australia question. as for tommy's best solo work, that's all personal opinion. I really love 7 Deadly Zens, and would recommend picking that up. And you must get both Shaw/Blades albums. Great songs, great harmonies, great musicianship. :D

Thankyou Rockwriter. I'm gonna try chase it up.
I wish Tommy or Styx would do some shows here, I've gotta see this guy before I die.

I've got the "Hallucination" album on cassete, and is brilliant.
I'm getting this and all the others from amazon.com soon.
