in the realm of re-issues, I had always thought that moving to the digital medium for music would have given record companies the ability to release more out of print music, but we see record companies continue to focus on the current pop market. I wonder what kind of market there is for some of these out of print albums that could easily be made only available through companies like itunes. Anyone have an opinion on this?

Just about every "album" they have done!

Never was a Zep fan until the mid 90's. Couldn't stand to listen to there music. Then one day a box set of the songs remastered came out. I listened to it, then bought it, and have been a fan ever since. But the music is dated-ERIC

I heard John Lennon on the radio when I went for a drive today. I'd say his music is "timeless". Most definitely.
But then, my definition of timeless music is music that is appreciated by any audience, long after is was originally recorded. Or written, I should say.

That's a nice definition, and one that I could agree with. What a lot of folks mean when they say "timeless" is a recording which literally cannot be placed in a historical context -- which does not, sonically, reflect the times in which it was recorded. And that's what I was referring to in my post.

With that definition, you would most definitely include almost everything ever written. Could you imagine people in the days "A.D." listening to "Imagine"?
