Tommy said in his blog, that he did the song "Gypsy" for his friends, Jim Ladd and Billy Sherwood, for their album "Headsets". JY sings harmony, and Slash plays lead guitar on it.

Greetings from home,

It's shaping up to be a fine year of live performing. Making up two Shaw Blades shows the end of this month, looking at a very busy schedule with STYX, Foreigner and Def Leppard, and even some shows with REO.

Our UK tour with Deep Purple and Thin Lizzy could not have been more fun, not the least of which was sitting in with Deep Purple at Wembley Arena in London, trading off with the great Steve Morse before launching into "Smoke On The Water" in their encore. Jeanne and I spent three days with friends in London after the tour ended and got to enjoy the experience of walking in all directions from their Covent Garden address to markets, stores, restaurants and parks, and enjoying every kind of food imaginable.

I accidentally deleted a question regarding a new track on iTunes called "Gypsy," and I apologize for that. It's a song I sang on an album that my friend Jim Ladd did with another pal of mine, Billy Sherwood called "Headsets." That's JY singing harmony and Slash on lead guitar. This is Ladd's debut CD and I look forward to many more volumes from my legendary DJ buddy.

I hope you'll come out to see STYX this summer and fall, and when our SHAW BLADES November/December dates start shaping up I hope you'll plan on coming out to see us again. I've had the most interesting schedule this year and I look forward to more of the same. To have the opportunity to play all these songs that have been the soundtrack to my life has been a real gift.

Here is an idea. This comes partly after watching Derek Sutton's interview last night. The whole game has changed. Maybe TS should post the entire tune on STYXWORLD.com so everybody can listen.

OK stay with me here. I know the whole thing about artists getting paid for their work. But, the playing field has changed. I believe there are ways they the artists/management can release work for free. And, it will come back around to them in CD sales or Download sales and maybe a concert ticket sale.

There is this relatively new marketing thing labeled "Viral Marketing."

I would suggest that artists and or management that collaborate on these type of efforts post full listening experiences. A full song that applies to their website. So that fans of the "tribute band" and the individual artists playing on the tribute or the artist/band with a new release that have guest artists playing can experience the new music and react. Open up new horizons for fans or interested parties of all involved. A cross pollination on the net.

I know I'm dragging up an old post, but can someone tell me the origin of this song, was this a cover? where did it come from? I just found it yesterday while trolling on Amazon and although I had never heard it before (?) or know about it, it sounds strangely familiar to me?? I'm not really getting any answers from my various google searches.
