contrary to what froy might have you believe, the place was almost sold out (capacity was around 8,000 - guesstimate) and the crowd was on its feet the whole time (that would include the drunk guy next to me who continuously screamed out ROBOTTO for 20 minutes @@)

all in all- a fun show. styx played for 70 minutes. usual set list w SMB & MITW thrown in, which made me very happy. i'd love to hear them do half penny 2 penny again, and queen of spades. hell- do the entire song of MITW. they do need to shake things up, but the addition of SMB was a pleasant surprise. i also really enjoyed boston (only stayed for an hour of their set though) they were not as "stiff" as i had anticipated. their new singer DOES need seasoning (lots!), but the rest of the band kicked ass. loved kimberly- she's awesome! great bass player. and all 3 guitar players rocked. there were lots of "guitarheros" and musicians in the audience. LOL boston is definitely a "guy band"

You just can't stand the fact that this band plays this song with the energy it is meant to be played with. Your hero NEEDS the boys in Styx to sound like Styx! Nothing against the guys Dennis has playing with him, but they can't touch this version of Styx as players. Maybe if this song was played a cappella you may have a point but fortunately it is not.

Tommy's voice sounds phenomenal. He still sings like a champ after all these years.

I really wish he and Dennis could patch things up and the two of them just do some music together the way Tommy and Jack have done. Tommy and Dennis had voices than melted together like butter.

Has the set been the same since they started with boston? If so I hope they keep smb and man in the wilderness in the set when they swing by wisconsin at the end of next month.

I'm a fan of the current Styx - saw them with Burtnik once and three times with Phillips. But, don't knock Dennis's band... they ROCKED when I saw them. Their guitar playing was honestly a step above JY and TS's. And Dennis's voice is still 100% pristine - Tommy's is still in great shape, but he's lost a TINY TINY bit.

I liked hearing them do it. And I don't think Gowan has a "crappy" voice. Just because he doesn't have a power vibrato going 24/7 or hold the "MOOOOOOOOOOOoooore" for 38.4 seconds doesn't mean it's crappy. Different strokes. You don't like his voice. We got it, really. You don't ever go see current Styx in concert. We got that too. So what the hell difference does it make to you whether they play it or not? YOU DON'T HAVE TO LISTEN TO IT.

I think that's at the Nokia Theater in Grand Prairie. It seats between 6300 & 6400. Very nice venue.

yes, it was the nokia theatre. VERY nice. we had 3rd row seats, and of course we went for the "against the barricade upgrade" the show would have been even better without the drunk guy next to me. but there's ALWAYS at least one.

Glad MOST of you enjoyed the clips. As far as MITW is concerned, i believe it's a permanent addition to the set for this tour. i saw them in March, and they played it then too. Just the first verse and chorus, right before Crystal Ball, which is also a permanent fixture as far as i can tell.


sorry, but i really ENJOYED hearing SMB. they haven't played it in almost a decade, and i'm glad they decide to "dust it off." i have no prob with gowan singing it. he has the stage presence and charisma to carry it off. the crowd loved it- really!!! but don't take my word for it. listen to the clip. you hear the cheers.

There are a lot of great songs in the Styx repertoire that fans would love to hear. It does not have to include SMB. My opinion -- and I don't plan on "leaving it alone."

I have zero problem with the other stuff they do, especially Tommy's songs, as he really is sounding quite good lately.

Hopefully one that entertains the crowd, which, in case you're wondering, always does. If you want to micromanage a song note-for-note, sit home and listen to your albums. If you want to have a concert experience, then go and enjoy yourself like everyone else.

Dicey proposition for this band. Split fan base. Not going to please everyone. Glad I'm not in their position. No matter who the band/artist is, they will always face pro and con comments. And fans will usually argue and disagree about the comments. You each have validity.
