I could drum better than John's post '96 stuff. He was dead and hasn't played since.

Both funny and morbid at the same time :)

John was perfect for Styx when he was alive and in the band. What he played was very tasteful. Was he th ebest drummer ever? No. What he did for Styx was right, and that's all that matters. However, had you seen the 91 tour, it was very evident that John's problems DID affect his playing. I met him on that tour briefly; he was as nice as can be. I'll always remember that. But, his drumming was suffering. My friend even made fun of that moment I believe was in "World Tonight" where the other guys came in and banged on some stuff. Back in the day John could have handled most of that himself.

On a technical level, Todd is arguably better than John as well as more versatile. This takes nothing away from John, his live playing when he was healthy, or his recorded legacy.

At this point, I would contend that Todd is one of the few reasons to still go see Styx.
