Japan Remasters

Postby Hollywood » Mon May 25, 2009 6:38 am

I read the previous threads about the remasters/SHM reissues. One question I have that I hope someone can answer is about the Cornerstone and Paradise Theater releases. I know that they have not been remastered for this run, but have they ever been remastered since the initial CD releases? I have the original CD release and want an upgrade, but don't want to spend the money on these if I am not getting better sound quality.

Secondly, who was the retard that didn't remaster just those two. Just idiotic. Sound like an American record executive that does not know or care what the public or fans want. Case in point, Rhino releasing a press release saying they are going to reissue the entire Yes (Atlantic) and Chicago (Columbia/Reprise) catalogs only to stop one album before completing the catalog. Hence no Chicago 19 and no Big Generator. Total BS!

Anyone have any insight?

As far as I know, their record company (Universal) has no plans for remastering any of the albums. It's a shame as I think they could put together some really great packages. At least they could remaster the 4 big albums either into one package or two and add some extras..live recordings, videos, rarities. Being a huge Styx fan, this has been one of the biggest disappointments for me.

Well I think the label is happy enough that the GH package is still selling quite well, and from what I've understood that and GH2 (which I would think should be nearing gold anytime now..) are both remastered.

Not sure if "Gold" or "Anthology" are remasters or not.

No, those two have never been remastered in the modern sense of the word. The POCM pressings may have been level shifted when they came out in 1993 (I'd have to check, not in a position to do that at the moment).

Yes, but it never came out here with bonus tracks like the others did. My main point was that the Japanese market is much more thorough.

Realize that the Japanese are more often than not about presenting it as it was originally, meaning not with bonus cuts. Big Generator is coming out again this summer as a mini-LP sleeve for the second time and is supposedly a new mastering job.
