THE (MODERN DRUMMER) POLLS ARE IN!

I guess Steve Smith really could learn a few things from Todd's DVD! LOL

(Congrats to Todd, by the way! What a huge, but well-deserved acknowledgment)

In that category, yes he sure did. I think Neil came out 3rd in Prog, and he made the HOF.

WHat's left for Neil to accomplish? Seriously. He has nothing to prove.

Good for Todd, though. Great drummer. All the accolades are deserved.

If Todd is that good he needs to be with a band on its way up vs. a nostalgia act. He's still young enough to have a career in a band that has a chance at stardom....

Here's the deal: Todd's already seen the other side of the fence. He was in a really great band that could have been huge, but instead failed. Then Styx came calling and ever since then he's made a great living playing the drums. He was doing well with session work before, but at some point a musician wants more than to play jingles. It's the same way I felt when I used to sing demos; grateful for the work and money, but oftentimes not too happy about the quality of what I had to do.

Todd's also been smart about getting out there and doing recording projects and live dates with a lot more industry cache than Styx, so when his tenure with the band does come to an end he won't be just "that guy that was the replacement in Styx". He'll have his pick of live and studio gigs after Styx, mark my words, and in the meantime he's earning a really great living getting to play drums in a band he liked when he was a kid. Not such a bad thing as compared to losing money playing in some young band that may or may very well not have any chance at success. For all its perceived minuses, Styx is still a great gig.

I hope all is well.

I think you are all missing the ENORMOUS point in all this, which is that Todd beat out Steve Smith in 2 categories! Froy, you should write a letter!

On second thought...

What you perhaps may not realize is that Modern Drummer Magazine is the world wide New York Times for DRUMMERS. Voted by DRUMMERS, not mommie's basement living-fan-dingleberries.

Kenny Arnoff by no means is a SECOND STRING drummer.. he is one of the best session drummers out there..

Well then, if he's so great, he shouldn't be wasting his time filling in for second-rate bands on third rate tours!
