Numbers of asses in seats just means they tour more. It doesn't mean bigger.

I beg to differ, The asses have DEFINITELY gotten bigger!

Outside of package bills which allows artists of the same size/popularity to play larger venues, Dennis and Styx play the SAME SIZED VENUES. Period.

Styx and Dennis are nostalgia bands at this point to most people. They are not bigger than their height of popularity in terms of touring, which was arguably 1981 where they did their last major world tour and went to Europe, North America, and Japan. They did nearly 3 hours, no opening act.

Depends on where you are talking.

Last time Dennis was here, he was playing some rib fest as free entertainment. Before that he was at a half filled Civic Center that holds 2500 people. If Dennis can't even sell 2,000 seats at the Civic Center, he may as well find somewhere else to go and skip the embarrassment of a 'rib fest'.

Within a few months Styx was performing alone at a casine for $50 or $70/ticket...and as far as I could tell, they were pretty close to sold out....around 7,000. Dennis on his own is simply not a draw in this town.

Dennis does fine own his own

You do realize that rib fests/state fairs/<insert event here> pay the same for the band or possibly more since there's no possibility of % of ticket sales (assuming they get some cut of that). It's not like they're doing it out of the kindness of their hearts.

Styx has done similar events, too, over the years. As have most bands of that era. I don't get the constant, "Well, Dennis did this therefore ..." or "Styx did this, so ...". They're all swimming in the same proverbial pool.

Yes, I do. But, it's also obvious to me that Styx sells tickets in this town and Dennis doesn't. Put it this way, people who saw Dennis at the rib fest were there for the ribs, not the music.

Styx has done similar events, too, over the years.

It depends on where you are. Styx hasn't performed the rib fest here.

It depends on where you are. I'm not saying one is in a better position then another...I'm just saying that I do not expect Dennis to ever come here again - cuz nobody cares....and people DO care about Styx here. I'm sure you can say the reverse in other areas....but that IS how it is here.
