You've been saying this for ten years now? Get over your love affair with Dennis. Lawrence isn't going anywhere but back on stage with Styx

I do believe that you've been saying XX amount more shows and he's done since Gowan joined the band. Thousands of shows later, you're still wrong and always will be.

I would think that at this point more people have seen the Gowan Styx live then the DDY Styx.

Styx seems to be slowing down a tad, and this is the first time in nearly 10 years he's had a chance to revisit his solo career outside of the odd date in Canada.

Most artists would rather do new material, but Styx is a cash cow. Period. Gowan won't bite the hands that feed him.

So far they don't seem to have alot of dates yet.So i guess Gowan can't stand still for very long.heehee And now that he has new fans in the USA he could do concerts here too.But he will never bite the hand that feeds him for sure.I don't think the other 2 really care any more.TS & JY that is.

Around the time of Cyclorama JY made a comment about solo projects being a bad idea and then Glen had Welcome to Hollwood (and left the band soon thereafter, but I'm sure that wasn't the catalyst). JY really didn't say much about Shaw Blades, and I would argue becuase without Tommy, there wouldn't be a Styx at this point. Clearly after 2003 when there has been no large amounts of new material, what can JY say at this point? Tommy and Gowan (and probably Ricky and Todd) need an outlet to be creative. You can only get so creative playing "Come Sail Away" every night.

So I think things have changed in the Styx camp to be a bit more flexible.

At least someone in the organization wants to actually CREATE.

Man, I cannot believe that they haven't and aren't planning on doing anything new.
Until there's NEW Styx music, no more shows for me.

why don't they want to put out a new album? Laziness, creativity not there, or don't feel it's worth it b/c they won't move enough CDs? How many did they sell on Cyclorama?

There is nobody left to write songs. Dennis wrote all the hits and came up with the concepts. Shaw and Young do not know how to write a song together,
Never have never will. Glen was the man with carrot, Gowan forget it in Canada fine in the US no way and no chance .,

Gowan's contract expires in 2015.
Then he has the option of renegotiating for another 2 year optional at 2% lower pay,but with stock options, and a cut in t-shirt sales.

Tommy's doing a bluegrass album and a new Shaw Blades Influence 2 album. He clearly has some creativity left. I think it's partially a business decision - no one is selling catalog, really, and those who are have the one off type deals with Wal Mart where you also do re-recordings of hits, etc.. Plus, let's face it - those who come to see Styx (or Dennis, Journey, etc.) really just want to hear the hits. Only diehards want to hear deep cuts.

Which makes me wonder. Will Dennis write/record any new music? Or only if someone asks him to, which has been the case with him from 100 Years to the music in 101 Dalmatians. Have we heard the last new music from him? from Touring Styx?

Will Tommy's bluegrass be covers or new? We already know Influence 2 is covers.

Are the creating-new-music days done for all of them?

I believe if you go look in alt.music.journey, he was saying Gowan would be gone after the first tour, or even sooner.
