OT: How 'bout those Phillies

Postby Keiferb » Thu Oct 07, 2010 10:42 am

Have to give a shout out to the home team. Game 1 vs. Cincy - Roy Halladay a no hitter. Simply can't beat that. A great time to be a Phillies fan. We've had many woeful years here, but the last few have been a great run. Keep trying to tell my kids to pay attention. They were terrible when I was their age. Trying to ignore all the pundits who've already predicted a Philly World Series. Been let down before.

If you don't like the Phillies, or baseball.....well.....sorry.

I got a baseball signed by the whole team when I was in bad shape in the Hospital back in 1976. Wish Harry was still around to see the great game Halladay had.

Halladay, Oswalt & Hammels what a TOTAL nightmare on hitters. The ONLY way to beat the Phillies is to get into their bullpen. If the Reds or anyone else can do that they have a chance. If not, hand the Phillies their second world title in 3 years.

On a side note: I HATE the Red Sox!!! As a kid I loved them and they broke my heart over & over again. Now what do they do recently?? They beat the frickin Yankees which then allows New York to play my beloved Minnesota Twins. Had they done their usual elfoldo MY Twins would have beat up Tampa. Texas and Cliff Lee would have upset New York. Then Minnesota would have easily beaten Texas to advance to the World Series where they would meet The Phillies.

Damn I hate the Red Sox. My Twins are toast!!

GREAT job Roy Halladay!!!! What a performance!!!!!!

P.S. What I say is true and you have to respect my opinion BECAUSE I once played on a Minnesota Twins 'Tribute' softball team & we played in a game in the Metrodome 'Tribute' stadium

As a lifelong Phillies phan, these past few years really have been a gift. I remember 1980 and the euphoria around that, and the subsequent letdown in '83. '93 was painful ... 'nuff said. Unlike the Eagles who seem to get it up to get to the playoffs and ultimately choke, the Phillies and arguably the Flyers right now are the shining spots in town. Unfortnately living not in Philly, I rarely get to see or go to games.

Unless there's some magic breakdown, I say Phillies in 4. I don't think it'll be a sweep.

It is a shame Harry K couldn't call that game. Can you imagine? It'd be everyone's ringtone today.

Yogi - if CC can't get it up to beat the Yankees, I have to agree with you; the Twins are going to have it rough.

No offense babyblue, but fuck the Giants. :) I do think a Giants/Phillies series will be good, though, and probably go 6 or 7.

Allan,

CC is on the Yankees, or in Poison, you lost me on your post????

If the Phillies would have traded Blanton instead of Cliff Lee how damn good would they be?? Can you imagine facing Holliday, then Oswalt, then Lee, then Hammels??? That could of been the best rotation EVER!!

Not even Gowan or Froy could screw that up!!!!!

Sorry ... spaced for a minute. My mistake on CC.

Yeah, H2O + Lee would be more than scary.

If the Phillies would have traded Blanton and kept Lee (which I admit, was pretty ticked when the left Lee go w/Blanton signed for 8M), they would NOT have picked up Oswalt. It simply would have been out of their payroll limit. The Phillies have a pretty high payroll (I think it's now 140M), but it's still significantly less the NY or Boston. It's shocking to say this, seeing how Lee won the Phil's only 2 World Series games last year - they are better now.

Mark this down, and as much as I hate to think about it, Lee will be with either the Yankees or Red Sox next year. His time in Texas is short.

Correct. There is no way the Phils would have had Lee and Doc and Oswalt.
The Yanks could have had Oswalt but DingBat Cashman passed. Not sure what he was thinking. Now my Yanks only have 2 good starters.
I think the Phils have the best shot to win it all this year. They are not the best overall team, but with those 3 studs in the rotation that usually wins short Series. It's hard to get into their bullpen with those 3 guys dominating.

I know most of you guys hate Yankee fans. Sorry, I was born into it in Long Island!

Yogi, sorry about your Twins. But the series is not over yet. Coming back from 0-2 in a 5 game series is not nearly as tough as coming back from an 0-3 hole in a 7 game series.

Too bad you're a Yankees fan! I'm secretly hoping for a Phils/Yankees rematch. I still have the sour taste of last year that needs to be washed away. I'm not sure the Yanks will get past Texas - assuming they're going to finish off Tampa.

I had picked a Phils/Twins world series at the beginning of the year. I'm a little surprised that the Twins gave that game up last night. CC was ripe for the pickin'.

Good luck to you all and your teams. I'll root for the Phils all the way. The Eagles are on their way to being another big disappointment in a very weak NFC East.

I think it's completely unrealistic to think the Phils will sweep. Cincy is a good team. They wouldn't be where they are if they weren't. Folks I work with are delusional, because they get so taken up in the moment. They think I'm negative. I'm realistic, and frankly, it's hard being a fan of any Philly sports team - so many letdowns.

For they year, the Reds had a higher team batting average, more home runs, more runs per game, and fewer error than the Phillies. That's what makes Halladay's feat yesterday so remarkable. He looked better than he did in the perfect game against Florida earlier this year.

I have no desire to see that dude who throws 104 MPH - especially against the lefty-heavy Phils. What the Reds don't have is playoff experience.

Not much more to say. Can't believe all the errors and other miscues by the Reds. They should've taken game 2, since Oswalt didn't look ready to play.

Bring on 'da Giants. Looking forward to Halladay vs. Lincecum.
