UPON FURTHER REVIEW

Postby yogi » Thu Nov 11, 2010 11:41 pm

I am a HUGE fan of Styx. I have liked EVERY rendition of the band and I like them now. The tour that they are currently on(Grand Illusion/PiecesOf Eight) I would give almost anything to see and I hope somehow this is the show that they perform in Houston in January. Still after learning the facts this UK trip makes 0 sense to me.

I am currently out of season( I am not a deer), I know that most of you here look to me for the facts about styx so yesterday I did a little investigating about styx's upcoming tour with FOREigner & JOURNEY here is what I found out:

jy is the brains of the band. He always has been and always will be. For styx to either make money or break even on this tour they have already agreed to:
1) Carry JOURNEY'S & FOREIGner's luggage to and from the airport.
2) Supply all the band members of FOREIGner & JOURNEY with a free LIFETIME supply of their styx coffee.
3) styx will be staying at youth hostels instead of hotels while in Europe(to save money)
4) styx will take the stage June 4 in Wembly and June 9 in Glasgow 45 minutes before JOURNEY even performs
their soundcheck

They are going from a once in a lifetime concert tour to being a 35 minute playing 3rd wheel in Europe. Could Froy be right??

And don't forget transportation to the venues:

Limos for Journey
Nice van for Foreigner
Clown car for Styx

No. That's not true. Styx will be taking the bus. Not enough room for the drum set in the clown car.

I am just stunned that a band of QUALITY QUALITY musicians would go from playing a Styx fans dream concert, a concert that is showcasing their incredible talents, to being a third wheel playing a 35 minute set to fans that are only there to get through them to see other acts.

I can hear it now... 'who are these bloody clowns','I came off holiday for this' 'I am going to the lou, tell me when they are off' - " Dont take too long going they only have the stage for 35 minutes".....

At a recent Nickelback concert the warmup was Shinedown with Special Guest Molly and her talking Parrot ......This hurts.

Its like Derek Jeter is now batting 9TH and playing for the Seattle Mariners.

You know, as much grief as I give to this lineup of Styx, what you say is very true. This band consistently (except for the DDY-sung songs) does a superb show. They get excellent critical reviews and the fans, true and casual, all agree that they are up there with the very best.

There seems to be a missing ingredient, but far be it from me to say what it is. ;^)

But they are definitely third tier on this tour.

That said, they usually share co-headlining status on their annual summer tours here, so all is not lost.

Now I just read 'Shreveport Times' that Styx will be playing The Ice Cream Stage at the Independence Bowl. The Independence Bowl has 3 stages The Main Stage, Stage #2 and The Ice Cream Stage.

This year The Independence Bowl payout will be $250,000 and they will take The Big 12's # 8 Team and The Big Ten's # 8 Team.

Up until now the most famous act to ever play the Ice Cream Stage was: 'Almost Barney's'- The final 4 dinosaurs that didnt make the cut for the Barney show.

According to an Independence Bowl spokesman 'this should be the biggest and best Independence Bowl ever'

Read more by going to www.shreveporttimes.com. Then look under Bossier Bookings for the picture who is headlining The Ice Cream Stage after Styx

From The Grand Illusion/Pieces Of Eight concert of a lifetime to a third wheel that NO ONE really cares for or wants to hear in Europe.

Besides the MONEY how on earth does this make sense?? They have become Chicago's version of Heidi Fleiss.

Special Guest styx, give me a break. The raw talant that they have in this band is beyond comprehension. Again, they are currently doing 'The concert event of a lifetime'. Todd gets to play his as s off. JY grabs spotlight, Tommy is at the forefront and even Gowan gets to really shine among Styx diehard fans. A state of the art stage and video graphics EVERYTHING that screams WE ARE GREAT!!!

Now this????

I know you cant make a great living playing in front of 1,000 per night, but sometimes you might be better off working at Burger King then it is to be a streetwalker.

It's only five shows and with any luck they might get to join the other 2 dozen bands playing the Download Festival that coming weekend.

Your right they are not special. Talent? Gowan Ricky JY and Todd, Not much talent at all. As far as concert event of a lifetime with Gowan in the band there will never be a concert event of anything,

Gowan gets to really shine among Styx die hard fans.

Yea shine my shoes .

A state of the art stage and video graphics EVERYTHING that screams WE ARE GREAT!!!

Yea the video graphics but not the band, The band screams we suck.

Downtime. What downtime. When you travel for gigs all the time and own a franchise, you are a busy man.
You gotta keep those snotnosed teenagers in line and make sure they don't eat away the overhead.
The band's gotta be in a new city every other day,and the show goes on and on,and on time.

Styx has never broken over there the way it did over here. The band did not pursue the UK when it might have made a difference. Shows like these are the only feasible way for them to do the UK - kinda like that Night of the Proms thing was a way for Dennis to do some stuff overseas and make it feasible. It's just the way it is.

The bubble is NOT bursting BUT what I cant figure out is why dont they do this tour for 6-8 months, go in and record some new material and then see where they stand.

The tour they are currently on now showcases their incredible talents. Then they hit the UK and become a third tier diseased 35 minute for 100 gilders street walker.

Derek Jeter would NEVER do this!!!

Dude your love affair with these guys and "their incredible talent" is getting as bad as Everett....

This current tour showcases their incredible talents??? Like JY screeching his way through Great White Hope and Lords of The Rings, missing every other note....they might need to take a page from the Journey playbook and have some dubbing in on JY's vocals....they are horrible. Some showcasing of talent....
