OT: What are the worst classic rock videos of all time?

Postby Rockwriter » Fri Feb 11, 2011 8:57 am

Hi everyone:

I want to do a series of articles about the worst classic rock videos of all time. So what are they? Give me your votes for the dumbest, the cheesiest, the outright worst videos the genre has ever known! Then I'm going to do one article per week, one video at a time. Should be fun!

Thanks! I hope everyone is doing well.

Genesis - Land of Confusion. Just. Ugh.

Billy Squier - Rock Me Tonight. Agreeing with others here. Truly awful.

Tommy Shaw - Lonely School. That poofy hair! Sucky song.

Dexys Midnight Runners - Come on Eileen. Fugly clothes. Fugly guys.

All I can think of right now.

All the videos from Paradise Theatre.

One Lonely Night was a GREAT GREAT video. Great play on words by REO- kind of like you can tune a piano.....

JY's - Wild Dogs in the Night - by far the worst video ever. The 99 balloons was also pretty poor

I would have to say DIO, Rainbow in the Dark. If memory serves me correctly it's the one were it's just him walking around a rooftop of a building singing the song. BORING!

if you REALLY want a laugh - go to youtube and check out Aldo Nova's "Fantasy". Of course, I don't know if that would count as "classic" rock.....

Seperate Ways (Worlds Apart) is one of the single worst videos of all time. All Hell's Breakin' Loose by KISS and Lick it Up by KISS are almost equally as bad together although they are one of my top 3 favorite bands of all time. Motley's Too Young to Fall in Love is pretty lame as well as deserves a mention.

I never really liked the ones for Paradise Theater or Kilroy. I did think the video for Show Me The Way was good.

The two best Styx/related videos are Desert Moon and Show Me The Way. Both have a lot of depth to them.

Styx videos I would have liked to have seen made.....(that could have been very cool with a cool story line)

Suite Madame Blue
Ballerina
Crystal Ball
Come Sail Away (not concert footage)
Grand Illusion
Renegade
Sing For The Day
Boat On The River
Snowblind
Rockin The Paradise (not concert footage)
Best of Times (not concert footage)
All In A Day's Work

Styx really missed the boat when it came to using Music Videos to help their position. it's not like they didn't have the money or the contacts to make more and better produced videos.

Or it could have had something to do with the fact that they weren't exactly as stylish as Duran Duran, they were more like Luke Skywalker and Killer Bob fronted by Rene Belloq. - Not exactly music video-friendly!

I dunno. Luke was kinda cute and Rene (Paul Freeman) was bad, but kinda sexy. ;-)

There were plenty of non music video friendly artists that were worse back then. It's my opinion that you can also make a great music video that doesn't focus just on the band standing in front of the camera performing the song.
