O/T Listening Party- REO Speedwagon Self Titled Debut

So your asking why an reo listening party in a styx forum???? Answer- why the hell not??? Just an fyi my posts won't be as in depth as tophers so don't expect a song by song review. Anyways if your used to the sappy ballads of reo in the 80's. These early albums will shock the hell outta you (hopefully) So here's their first album in it's entirety from 1971.

Nine Lives and Life As We Know it are my two favorite REO albums. Nine Lives rocks like no other. GREAT GREAT album. Life as We Know It is by far their most underrated. Was a GREAT CD.

Although I have all the REO albums released between 1971 to 1984, "NINE LIVES" (1979) and "YOU CAN TUNE A PIANO, BUT YOU CAN'T TUNA FISH" (1978) are my favorites. The other albums I hardly listen.
IMO, "NINE LIVES" is a perfect album, the best of all. The first 3 songs "Heavy On Your Love", "Drop It" and "Only The Strong Survive" are killer. On the other hand my favorite song is "Roll With The Changes" from the album "....Tuna Fish".

i dont too much of the real early REO stuff other the few that they still play live and appear on the greatest hits......my REO days mostly centered around wearing out "hi-infidelity".

then after seeing the band several times live it has become hard for me to listen to them much anymore for two main reasons;

1) Cronin literally sings like a little kid....he does something weird with his voice that is way more obvious than what he did in their glory days and it's tiny and shrill sounding.

2) Cronin blabbing away for what seems like hours and hours between EVERY SINGLE SONG has just about turned me against them....I have no desire to see them live at all these days even though outside of him they are a killer band.

Some good tunes here ie:: lay me down, sophisticated lady (killer richrath solo there),
anti establishment man & 5 men were killed today. Also don't forget the one that has stood
the test of time 157 riverside avenue. A decent debut album in my book. It's a shame luttrell
didn't stay on longer but i guess it wasn't meant to be. Next up we'll get a glimpse into what
would make reo famous near the end of the decade with reo t.w.o. which is coming up
next.....
