Autotune

None of the Styx guys use autotune/pitch correction, in concerts, right?

I recently read speculation that Tommy uses pitch correction. While I find it extremely hard to believe, I figured I'd pose the question here. God only knows that crazier things have been reality.

In every article and interview I've read, the guys are adamant in stating that they use no enhancements live. Tommy has simply taken very good care of his voice over the years.
Sometimes it makes no sense at all.

auto tune and pitch correction does nothing to save the tone of the voice or the power......so when you hear tommy sing then it is certain that he has been lucky or dedicated or both in maintaining his voice.

however, that does not mean he doest occasionally hit a sour note and in those cases pitch correction would help a bit and I can't imagine that not most of every single professional singer out there doesnt use a bit of it.

if you are not family with the process you can use pitch correction very lightly......it has parameters that allows you to decide how bad a note has to be off before it will kick in an process......so theoretically tommy could use pitch correction live and it only really kick in a process a few times each night.....or it could process a lot more than that.

pitch correction will do little to help a voice that has been lost like JY's......when his voice cracks or simply cannot go where it needs to go there is no amount of pitch correction that will help.....that is simply in his tone and the lost vocal range he has now.

I have seen tommy on stage over 25 times in the past 25 years both with styx and damn yankees and I have heard him hit sour notes so if he does use pitch correction it is used very lightly if at all.

That's kind of how I thought of it: not likely, but technically possible that it is used very lightly.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but the more heavily the autotune is used, the more of that metallic sound you will hear. Correct?

Yes, so it would have no help on Steve Perry. I remember a 10 years ago when Journey was touring with Steve Augeri and his voice was getting shot, they had to resort to backup vocals because his voice was so bad. Autotune couldn't help him.
