current tour

Postby willspups » Fri Jun 26, 2015 1:18 am

So over at the Styx Facebook page there are pictures of the current tour which shows they are using the big "Paradise" sign. Seems awfully shady being that they kicked out Dennis and it was entirely his concept. They certainly do like to pick and choose what part of their past body of work is suitable for their current image, of who they are as a band.

uhhhhh, yeh, since they are using the name styx and are carrying on as styx, then yep, they certainly have the right to pick and choose any part of their past to embrace or ignore. you did a great job of picking right up on that....well done.

Hey and look, once again you offer nothing of intelligence or value to yet another thread. Well done.

You could use the same argument about them playing the songs that DDY wrote and sung. But, it's all part of the the Styx brand. If it falls under that "umbrella", then they'll use it. Frankly, I have quit even looking into what they are doing because I have no interest. At this point it shouldn't matter to those that are not found of this version of Styx. DDY is still doing his thing and that should be good enough.

Yeah, but Dennis is also doing his thing by performing songs Tommy wrote and sang. So, I am sure you do not look at his schedule either.

I actually thought Dennis had that sign and had used it in some of his previous solo tours? Maybe my mind is confused or maybe there are multiple signs.

But the point is well made, they are very arbitrary about what they do and do not choose from their history....

how is this weird or arbitrary to you guys? I mean seriously, you have a couple of guys that are out working 100 shows per year for multiple decades and you find it strange that they decide every once and while to focus on a different part or era from their career?

I dont think they have any serious issues with PT......yeh, tommy said he didn't want to have to write songs about a specific theme.....but that has nothing to do with the songs from that album that him and JY still enjoy playing or feel they need to play.

and as for the imagery of the PT sign.....why not use it.......since that was the beginning of the MTV era and those three videos were played over and over again with that sign flashing in the background they know it is very recognizable........so why not use it......I think it makes good sense.

you guys really over think this stuff.....or are simply so bored that you conjure up shit to mean more than it does.

My not caring for the band touring as Styx has nothing to do with them performing DDY's songs from Styx. I don't care for the DDY replacement. For me personally, the band is a shell of what it was. Others feel differently I'm sure. I merely was making the case that it is logical for them to use the sign just as it is for them to be playing staple songs that DDY wrote and performed with them.

Your confused. Never saw that used by DDY himself. I'm sure that sign was property of the band and therefore stayed with "the business". It could be that there are trademarks involved with it too.

Perhaps I should have said that there was a certain dynamic to Styx with Dennis in the band. A dynamic that came from the combination of those specific three individuals. With him now absent from it, it's not there. Using the word shell may have been a poor choice. The current version of Styx just does nothing for me.

Actually, they are not using the sign. If you carefully look at the photo is is a screen projection of the Paradise logo and not the actual sign used in the 1996 tour. Dennis also uses a different variation on the "Paradise" sign.
