Monk is COMPLETELY full of crap about the meaning of the song 'Cold War' Here are THE FACTS about this EPIC Tommy Shaw led classic.

I read some Styx excerpts written by some of the writers from Rolling Stone Magazine and it was stated numerous times that Tommy brought the song 'Cold War' into the Paradise Theater recording sessions and Dennis rejected it because it didnt fit the loose concept of the Paradise Theater album. The song is about the Russians invading and fighting in the bitter cold of winter in Afghanistan and how it almost cost the US winning the 1980 Olympic Gold medal in hockey( because Jimmy Carter wanted to boycott these same Olympics because the Russians had invaded Afghanistan.

Tommy even spoke to Herb Brooks numerous times on the psychological aspect of getting his players ready to beat the Russians and then Finland to capture the gold medal. Herb not only brought his own players to their knees with his psychological tests a different form of 'Herb's Psychology' work even better on his opponents.

''Time has a way of even bringing mountains down'. 'Mountains' refers to 'The Russian Empire' and how they were losing a war and then lost hockey game. I can go on and on.

Monker is 100% wrong on this. Just read the true facts at http://www.rollingstone//styx articles.com

Later, Tommy would resubmit this song for the Kilroy album ' because he just couldnt think of any songs about robots' Dennis accepted it because 'Cold War' sounded a whole lot better than 'This Is Not A Test' which was the other song Tommy had brought to the table. Years later, 'This Is Not A Test' would appear on the Tommy Shaw classic album 'What If'

Finally if you go to Blockbuster or some mom and pop video store and can find a second edition VHS copy of Oliver Stone's JFK in the courtroom scene when Kevin Costner is saying 'back & to the left, back & to the left' you can faintly hear the song Cold War playing in the background. Seinfield even used this( Cold War- back ground music) in the secret spitter( Ron Darling) on the gravely road scene when Kramer & Newman were hit by the magic loogie.(It's the line that says 'You talk talk and you get so intense.....' I always figured that it was some sort of subliminal message .

Tommy & Dennis got a few royalty $$$ for this. Tommy because it was his song, and Dennis because it was his concept. This pissed JY off to no end because JY was Dr. Rightous ( the king of mind control and subliminal messages) and he didnt get jack in terms of $$$.

In other words, it's all Steve Perry's fault. If he had not given the model to follow, None of this would have happened in Styx.

Well, a long time ago, even before he was in Journey, Steve Perry was kidnapped by ancient aliens. This seems hard to believe, but it's the truth. Those who have been around Journey forums for a while know this to be true. They replaced him with an alien clone.

Ancient aliens had to do this for several reasons. First, Steve Perry was just too nice of a guy. The aliens knew that to lead a rock band you need to be an arrogant, self-rightous, perfectionist. AKA: an asshole. They also knew that in order for Steve Perry to get the job, he had to be an even bigger asshole than Herbie Herbert. And, for their continued interest in manipulating humanity, Steve Perry had to be in Journey. The ancient aliens believed that the only way that much assholishness could be achieved was by using their technology to manipulate Steve Perry's DNA and add the Ancient Alien "asshole" gene.

During this same time period in the mid-1970's, Dennis DeYoung happened upon Steve Perry just prior to when he joined Journey. He stumbled upon Steve Perry performing some weird ceremoney. It was night and Steve was walking along a beach in southern California. Dennis felt he wanted his privacy so he kept his distance. Besides, Perry's assholishness had become well known in the industry at this time and Dennis did not want to chance an encounter. So, he kept his distance but could observe what Steve Perry did next.

Steve stopped and gazed at the sky over the ocean. He was obviously searching for something in the sky. Steve must have found what he was looking for because he suddenly raised both of his hands up towards the sky as if he was reaching out for something. He then yelled, "Boom! Boom ba ya ya!" He then fell to his knees and kept his hands reaching out in obvious prayer and again yelled, "Boom ba ya ya!" He then put his face in the sand with his hands still reaching out but now along the sand and towards the ocean.

Dennis thought Perry was a nut and was about to leave him for the squirels when suddenly four golden angels appeared in the sky. They came down from the sky and formed a half circle in front of Steve Perry and repeated his words, "Boom ba ya ya!" Still knealing and looking down towards the ground and not at the angels, Steve Perry took his right hand and, like a ninja, forced it inside of his own chest and removed his own heart and offered it to the angels. The angels took it and replaced it with a new heart. Steve spoke the words one more time, "Boom ba ya ya." The angels slowly ascended about ten feet above him and then took off in an instance towards space.

Steve then stood up and continued walking.

A bit freaked out, Dennis walked the other way. He had no idea what he had just witnessed but it would make good imagery for a song...and "Come Sail Away" was written and recorded and became a breakthrough song on a breakthrough album for Styx. The band was happy for the success.

The aliens were not happy. Because of "Come Sail Away", they now knew that Dennis had seen the ritual. So, they went and kidnapped Dennis. They had every intention of cloning and adding the asshole gene during the process but they found that Dennis already had the asshole gene. All they had to do was activate it. So they did, and then released him....after they brainwashed him both of being abducted and of witnessing Steve Perry performing the "Boom ba ya ya" ritual.

So, with the asshole gene newly activated, Dennis was free to make demands of what Styx' sound should be like, to produce every album, to demand certain songs be released over others, direct that every album be a concept album, not let the rest of the band have any input, refuse to listen seriously to any critique or reasoning to follow a different direction than he decided, etc. You know, just being an asshole.

So, Steve Perry is to blame for everything. He is to blame for Styx having their most iconic song, "Come Sail Away", he is to blame for Dennis becoming such an asshole. Dennis being an asshole is what inspired "Cold War". It's all Steve Perry's fault. Everything is always Steve Perry's fault.

In this forum, 99% of what is posted is based on opinion and speculation. Especially on a subject such as this one. Only Tommy knows whom or what he was actually writing about. I think everyone that listens to music has thought lyrics meant one thing and discovered later on that they were incorrect when the artist explains what they actually meant. The speculation on what The Eagles' Hotel California was all about comes to mind. At any rate, who really cares what Monker's conclusions are when it comes to the lyrics of Cold War? It seems to me that it's only you. Your responding like Monker is ruining DDY's public image. Let me assure you that isn't the case. I'm sure DDY himself doesn't give a rat's ass on what is posted about him in online forums.

If saying "who really cares what Monker's conclusions are", then I guess I'm guilty. The point is, why get your panties in a bunch over something trivial. After all, Monker doesn't have direct statements from TS on what those lyrics meant. So it's speculation. Big deal.

"Desert Moon" was originally supposed to be part of the move "Dune". A movie which is about.....ALIENS

Steve Perry's band prior to joining Journey was "Alien Project". Why does a Roboto look suspiciously like Elmo, the alien head on the Frontiers album? Because they are depicting THE SAME ancient alien. With all of these connections to aliens between these two people and bands, you have ask yourself if they are trying to give us clues about their ancient alien connection. The answer is YES. Of course they are.

I get all that.

What i dont get is the youtube link to Sean Hannity. Is it because he almost moved to New Mexico back in 85 when Desert Moon was released?

Did you know that Steve Perry's ex girlfriend( Oh Sherrie video) sister is the girl seen on the ground in Styx's 'Show Me the Way ' video.

Bet that you didnt know that, plus that video was filmed in New Mexico the land of 10.000 space alien sightings

Actually Steve Perry and Dennis DeYoung are the exact same alien. The alien is a shape shifting reptilian. Look closely when it blinks it's eyes. Dead give away.
