WHY NO ONE POSTS ANYMORE

Postby yogi » Thu Oct 01, 2015 2:14 am

Is it because we are all too damn old and we no longer have the energy, or is it because Tommy did a' rockin' blue grass album?

Maybe its because we are all waiting for Suzzie's next book with a DDY demo in it, or it could be because we now see a little bit of JY in the Wizard Of Oz movie. Who does he remind us of??

So why????

there are only so many times you can have the same argument, regardless of what the subject is.

and on the rare occasion we aren't having the same argument, there are only so many times you can discuss/rank your favorite styx albums, or songs etc.....

we've hit the wall. 8)

That's what they said about the amount of times you can re record Blue Collar Man and put it on an album.

Quite simply I think it's due to the fact that they all are on autopilot. How excited can you get about them playing the same songs we have all heard over and over and over and over. And Before someone gets their panties in a bunch, when I they that includes DDY. I'm just waiting for one of the two acts to be a permanent attraction in Vegas. 8)

The Gary Richrath thread should explain it. While it should be a thread about Gary it turned into a thread about Styx vs. Dennis. Forums in general are on the decline. People seem to be moving away from the boards. I remember the old styxboard.com. was very active for several years then just disappeared.

The bottom line is the people who were fun have left these forums. And, this music is OLD now. We are talking music up to 40yrs ago. How busy are those Buddy Holly forums or whatever rock bands your parents liked when they were 16? We're lucky a Styx forum exists at all.

It is also true that forums are sorta old school now. I suppose if Styx were a new band and we were all 17, we would be talking on Twitter and/or facebook, or whatever the newest thing is now.

It got so boring and the same thing over and over, I took a year or two vacation. Just been back for a month or so. Good to see some people I know, and a few are missing.

Tons to talk about. Tommy getting a free pass when 'all he wants to do is rock' then he releases his first solo effort since seven Deadly Zens and he's singing about vittles, porridge and maws cooking.

Dennis puts out a GREAT album supposedly is offered the chance to do another one and we hear zip out of him about it.

JY ( the godfather/ scarecrow) Young to me seems to hold the needle that could stitch the group back together but instead keeps jabbing it in Denny's back.

They continue to be artists that wont create and are now and have been for the longest time nothing more than a tired lounge act.

Why wont ANY of these artists create??

A free pass? These topics have been beaten into the ground by Toph and the like. In fact, I would argue that it's conversation that topics like this generate that drive people out of the forum and make it less active.

Dennis puts out a GREAT album supposedly is offered the chance to do another one and we hear zip out of him about it.

We probably don't hear about because he doesn't want to say he doesn't want to do it....but again, it's ancient stuff. That offer may not even be available now.

JY ( the godfather/ scarecrow) Young to me seems to hold the needle that could stitch the group back together but instead keeps jabbing it in Denny's back.

Again, ancient topic. JY sets himself up for being the bad guy but it seems to me that neither Tommy or Chuck are going out of their way to work with Dennis either. IMO, there is no way to "stitch" the band back together...because the band, not just JY, doesn't want to be with DDY ever again.

Actually he already has stated what he thinks about doing another album. Basically, he is not sure if he will do it for several reasons. He has said that he feels people will be expecting something just like OYFN and he wasn't sure that he could or wants to do that. Also of the material he has written lately he has said it's all over the place in terms of style and wasn't sure how that would work in an album format. So I think he is still mulling it over and that is why he hasn't said anything. For the most part he usually doesn't say much until things are locked in.

If he does do it, it will be something to look forward to. If he doesn't then it is what it is. After all, the music business isn't what it was and artists from his era get the shortest end of the stick.

That's a good question and one would think that he would do it if a label is willing to release it. Even so it's a lot of work and effort and maybe he's thinking why should I when only a handle full of people are going to buy it. Also the fact is five seconds after an artist releases something it's posted all over the net for free. These are certainly motivation killers.

He went #1 in Quebec. It may be a small market but #1 is number 1. He's got fans.

Shi t, Styx hit the top 10 in three different decades. There must be only a handful of rock and roll bands that can make that statement. Why on earth they dont want to create new music is a TOTAL mystery to me. Its cheaper now to do it. Hell anyone can, damn near for free and they wont do it.

Styx even comes up with an AWESOME idea for a tour 'Grand Illusion/ Pieces Of Eight back to back and what do they do??? About 5 shows and then go back to their tired worn out greatest hits set where half the songs showcase the guy that they booted out of the band 'cause they want to rock'. What then does Tommy do, he cuts a hillbilly album.............

You must be kidding me.... I couldnt dream this stuff up if I tried

I think you need to take into account that there's no money in releasing albums anymore. Plus, they don't need to make them anymore to earn a very good living. It could just be that aspect of being an artist is not as motivating anymore. Maybe DDY would rather have OYFN be his swan song and doesn't want to release something else that may not do so well. We could speculate till the cows come home. Thing is we really don't know what is running through their minds. Unless the share it with the public. The music industry is a different animal now and that has a lot to do with why artists such as DDY and Styx have chosen to focus their energies on something other then putting out new material.

DDY made a reference on FB as to how he wanted to ask Pat Benatar to do the 100 Years From Now duet with him, but chickened out and never asked her. I think that was a missed opportunity. I think the only way any of these guys could get their music some attention would be to align with another 70s/80s type act in a duet type of way. There was speculation a few years ago (never substantiated) that there was discussion about a "Three Tenors" type of package with DDY and two others (Cetera? Graham?) but it might have just been rumor. Anyway, it may be gimmicky, but in all reality, it would take a gimmick and then some fluke of a major outlet picking it up for any of these guys/acts/bands to ever get any attention for new music.

Not a rumor, it was suppose to be DDY, Steve Perry and Peter Cetera. I guess all sides talked about it but the timing didn't work out. I think this was discussed in 2002 or 2003.

So little to talk about. It seems that the most exciting things we'll see from here on out from either camp are changes to their setlists.

LOL...yeah, there was a timing issue. It wasn't 1984 when Steve Perry could actually sing for an entire tour.

When this was first mentioned, I knew it would never happen. Steve Perry does not have a strong enough voice to sing on tour. Hell, listen to the times he performed with "The Eels" recently....he sounds horrid and would be embarrassed by DDY and Peter Cetera.

Steve Perry will never tour again.
