Dennis on JY/Miss America/Music Critics

From his Facebook page.

Hey kids, I just came across the Rolling Stone review of the Grand Illusion album by Joe Fernbacher from 1977. This guy singles but one song out on the album and that's Miss America. No mention of Grand Illusion, Foolin' Yourself or Come Sail Away, the three songs still being played on radio today. But being completely wrong about his musical prescience is really not the issue, it's his ignorant and malicious evaluation of the songs lyrical content that enrages. He accuses JY of being a misogynist ( woman hater) based on his interpretation of the lyrics. At this time JY and I were best friends traveling together by car to many drivable Midwestern cities and sharing motel rooms to save money. Roomies. I witnessed first hand the agony and feeling of helplessness he endured as his beloved wife Susie was stricken with Porphyria a disease for which there is no cure. She nearly died and she has bravely dealt with health issues ever since. Through it all he was by her side taking over when Dr's had no answers. To this day he has been by her side through everything. A mensch if ever there was one. She was his Miss America and the lyrics reflect that using the metaphor of a beauty queen (which she was to him) who had lost her crown. Every chorus ends with the words "Our love". I suggest you reread his lyrics with that in mind. If this Fernbacher character is still alive he owes JY an apology. Cheers D

I think Rolling Stone also wrote that Kiss Your Ass Goodbye had to do with 9/11.

What TOTAL hacks they are.

Ditto of what was said about Dennis posting this. Very sorry to hear this about JY's wife.

Rolling Stone Mag has screwed up sooooooooooooooo many times its literally funny. An ABSOLUTE hack liberal rag. ALWAYS has been and ALWAYS will be.

How about one of their big breakthrough fictitious articles last year on the college campus rape?? Made up with no facts checked. Then there was the Rugby team story they wrote a few years before that. All the time acting like music and entertainment authorities shoving their personal likes down our throats when their own taste is in their back sides.

A look back in history, when that rag of a magazine was reviewing Journey's Escape album the writer was ripping into the song 'Don't Stop Believin' he made a point of talking about the lyrics of 'street light people', wondering who these people were. I think maybe Journey's 'street light people' were something like the Pig Men that Kramer discovered in that hospital wing on an episode of Seinfield

Hacks with an agenda that are not held accountable.

very cool thing for dennis to post. i'm surprised you guys weren't aware of JY's wife. I had read about her health problems years ago....i guess it was just one of those things I had seen and wasn't much publicized.

i'm not gonna lie, when dennis talks about that period of time and that they were best friends at that time, it was actually emotional for me to read that. it's a real shame that it can't be that way now.
