KILROY WAS HERE (STYX) VS THE ASTONISHING (DREAM THEATER)

Postby yogi » Sun Dec 06, 2015 8:29 am

I don't know how to do it but if you type in Dream Theater current news you will be able to link a recent an in depth Rolling Stone article talking about the massive undertaking of their upcoming double album and tour 'The Astonishing'.

The concept sure sounds an awful lot like DDY's & Styx's concept for Kilroy Was Here. A concept which I always loved.

I cant wait for this double album and tour to come out. Its a great article. For the past 15+ years Dream Theater has become by far my favorite band. Styx is a distant second.

I wonder how close these concepts are going to be. I know the concept will be a thousand times more in depth then Styx's Kilroy album based on the fact that their entire The Astonishing Tour will consist of only music from their upcoming 2.5 hour double concept album. Unreal.

Makes me now wonder why I am so drawn to these two bands and the similarities in their concepts and music?

I'm looking forward to it. Also, massive respect to the band for their plans to play the whole thing live. This is a group that wants to keep moving forward and create memorable music. The track available on iTunes, "The Gift of Music," sounds very promising. Nothing terribly groundbreaking, but I think they played it safe for the first single. The quality is good, and my hopes are high. I wonder if Dennis is aware of The Astonishing.

It sounds like there will 2 or 3 central themes in the Astonishing with one being somewhat very closely linked to Dennis's Kilroy concept.

I too wonder if DDY is aware of Dream Theater's project. It sounds like a tremendous undertaking. But f there is any band out there that can pull this off its Dream Theater.

If they come within 300miles of me I am there.

They sure are playing in Europe a bunch. I saw their Dramatic Turn Of Events tour three times. It was EXCEPTIONAL. Then for their last self titled EPIC album as far as I know they never toured the US. They were in Europe and South America for over a year. Now their 'Astonishing' tour open again in Europe.

It ends over there in March hopefully they will play the US all summer and fall.

Let's see if The Astonishing tears the band apart the way Kilroy Was Here did for Styx

On one of the fan sites someone posted that 'you would think that bands would learn from Styx & their Kilroy album'
