Recent Dennis Interview - short

Postby SuiteMadameBlue » Sun May 09, 2004 12:48 am

I saw this on another board. This is a recent Dennis interview that was published this week. On a side note, his show in San Diego last night was SOLD OUT!! I don't blame him or any other member of Styx about being asked the "Styx vs. Styx" questions.

Dennis DeYoung hasn't been a member of Styx since 1999, when he was
replaced by Canadian superstar Lawrence Gowan, who'd opened for
several Styx gigs. Undaunted, DeYoung (who wrote some of the band's
biggest hits) performs "The Music of Styx" with the San Diego Symphony
at the 2200-seat Copley Symphony Hall tomorrow, while Styx sans
DeYoung plays Viejas's 1500-seat Dreamcatcher Showroom on September 28.

Tickets for DeYoung run $39.50 to $59.50, while seeing Styx at Viejas
will set you back a flat $55 via Ticketmaster. On scalper websites
like advancetickets.com, the spread is much wider, with DeYoung
tickets going for $267 and the band tickets selling for a mere $135.50.

Friday's show by DeYoung is "90 percent sold out" according to a box
office rep, and the Viejas concert sales figures are "confidential,"
according to Viejas Entertainment president Steve Redfearn.

Despite being warned by his publicist that DeYoung doesn't respond to
"Styx vs. Styx" questions, I ask DeYoung if he expects any current or
former Styx members to show up at his concert (as happened when
long-absent member Chuck Panozzo showed up unannounced to play with
Styx at Coors Amphitheatre in June 2001). He laughs. "If they're in
town and show up at the Hall, they'll have to buy a ticket like anyone
else and watch from the pews!"

I mention the resale price spread for the respective concerts, which
also makes him laugh.

"Well, then the scalpers have spoken."

Funny stuff --- for more reasons than one.

Congrats, Dennis, for the sold out concert.
