What do you guys think of them? Are they going to be as hot as the hype?
Kudos to them for not calling themselves Guns N Roses.

LOL!

Scott Weiland gives me the creeps anyway. I won't be rushing to my local CD store to buy this one.

At the very least, I'll probably give it a listen. I really enjoyed Guns N Roses up to the Illusion albums as well as Stone Temple Pilots early stuff, so the lineup alone has piqued my interest.

While we're off topic, what does everyone think of The Darkness? Judging from their sound, it would seem the band members were in comas for the entire duration of the 90's. When I first heard one of their songs, I honestly thought it was either a late 70's or hair metal band that had flown under my radar. It'll be interesting to see if their success has any effect on reviving the careers of some of the lingering hair bands.

Just picked up the Velvet Revolver CD. Only listened to it once, so I can't give a track by track review yet. However, my first impression is that it's very good. While it's what you would expect, namely a hybrid of the GNR and STP influences, it still maintains a fresh sound of its own. If you like Appetite For Destruction and early STP (Core and Purple), this is a must buy. It's also one of the few recent albums I've listened to that actually indulges in some guitar solos of substantial length. Thank you, Slash! Finally, my gut feeling is that more Stone Temple Pilots fans will be taken in by this than their Guns N Roses counterparts, but I could be way off the mark on that one. Anyway, that's my two cents for now.

VR & Darkness

Postby madmikeproductions » Fri Jun 25, 2004 1:09 pm

I really like the new VR CD. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I happen to listen to CDs from a technical perspective (being a producer), but once I get past technical issues, I try to listen to the songs. A little too much gratuitous swearing, but other than that, not really a weak song on the CD.
I happen to like the Darkness (although I don't like the whole CD - many weak songs there). I am very excited about Mutt Lange on board to produce their next CD. That is a hit waiting to happen. If there is somebody who can shape up some diamonds in the (very) rough, it's Mutt.
Can't wait for that one!

The Velvet Revolver album sounds great from the little I've listened to it. "Slither" is one of the best songs I've heard in a long long time. The VR website is done really well. A great place to hear samples and see the two videos they've done so far.

EK, you are absolutely right about Appetite For Destruction comparison. This is THE closest to Appetite I've heard since 1987.

Definitely worth picking up.
