In Tommy's new note at STYXWORLD he said that Styx has begun work on the next CD. :D

At least Styx has a record company to put a new CD out! Unlike Dennis who has to print them in his basement then have his wife mail them out 3 months after they cash the check from the 3 or 4 people who ordered it.

Dennis 3.5
Styx 2

Well the Carrot Cd did tank, seriously. The good news is that Styx Greatest Hits cd's keeps selling.

I have a few copies of Dennis' new double live cd  I received them right away, no problems

Hey ChicagoStyx, how long have you been a fan of Styx? Also, have you ever seen Dennis' solo show? I can't remember if you answered this before.

Me

Postby ChicagoSTYX » Sun Jul 11, 2004 1:33 pm

I have been a Styx fan since 1974. I grew up in Chicago and now live in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. I have been a part of the Chicago music scene for the last 25 years and have crossed paths with many of the same people that Styx has including the band members themselves. I was going to see Dennis back in 1995 at the Vic in Chicago but was unable to go at the last minute. The only time I saw him perform without Styx was on PBS and one night back in 1985 or 85 at Patty’s II on Harlem Ave. in Tinley Park, IL.
I happen to be in there having dinner when he was there with his wife. He is friends with owner and someone asked him to play a few songs on the piano and he did. That was really cool. I don’t hate Dennis and if I ever see him around town I would talk to him. I just feel the need to stand up for Styx when people like Froy start ripping on them. Styx is still a very good band without Dennis like it or not! (They were also a good band in 91 without Tommy)

Chicago Styx:

Well stated and thank you for that . It is always good to know the perspective of the folks who post here. I have not been a member for long, so don't know where a lot of folks here are coming from (though I have found out rather quickly where SOME are coming from!).

Does anyone have actual sales figures? I am curious. It is too bad that Cyclorama didn't do very well. I thought it was a GREAT album.

I did my best to promote it to radio and friends.

Oh well.

It would be interesting to know an approximation of when to expect the new CD.....I wonder if they have an abundance of material that just needs to be polished / produced, or if the majority of what we will get has yet to be written ? I miss the good old days, when they could do an Album every year or so, and it was top notch quality music. I'll sacrifice quantity of output for good quality though.

I also wonder what Ricky brings to the table as a writer ? will Glen's contributions be missed, or will Ricky adaquately fill that
void ?

Will we get an a capella version of "Blue Collar Man" on the next CD ?

They are working on new songs now for the CD. They have 4 or 5 songs in the works right now with the rest to be done sometime between now and the end of the year.

I think Cyclorama is every bit as good as most other Styx albums. It certainly must’ve sold more than DeYoung’s last few albums – but that’s not the point!

I’d like to remind everyone that record sales have absolutely nothing to do with quality, only with popularity.

The current stars of our pop culture are Nicole Richie, Jessica Simpson, Ozzie Osbourne’s family, and Carson Daly. Clearly, popularity does not, nor ever will, equal quality.

Also, one last thought…

Would it not be cool if they invited Glen back for a song or two on the new album? There's no reason it can't happen...

Also, I agree with what you said in another post...

There is no reunion I would rather see then a DY reunion. THAT would be awesome. Give Styx a breather and give DY the megaphone.

Every weekend I choose a different Styx album to play in my car, and this past week ends was crystal ball. Man, I gotta tell ya, I had forgotten how tight those vocals were on that album and in particular Jennifer. When these guys were on, man they were on.

ahhh, the good ole days.

SFNH,

I believe Crystal Ball is the most underrated CD in the entire Styx catalog.....I rate it right up with with GI, POE and Equinox. The vocals are amazing, especially when you consider it was the 1st CD TS, DDY and JY had done together.

Few mention it in the same breath as GI and POE though.

Anyone notice that POE is the album where the guitar sounds really changed? For example... listen to the electric guitars on Equinox, CB and GI and then listen to them on POE. They got thicker. Nothing very profound. I just noticed. Actually... I put on Equinox while I was studying the other night and was suprised at how "cool" and "different" the electric guitars sounded. On the song Lady too I notice it but by POE that "cool" sound is gone. It sounds kinda like a strat through a slightly overdriven but very loud Marshall.... by POE the guitars sound more processed. Anybody know any details? Listen to the chords right before JY starts singing on Miss America. That sound is GREAT.

Gary, I don't know the details, but with GI being the 1st platinum release, I would venture to guess that the dollars available for production increased significantly...perhaps they started tinkering with the sound, and decided they liked that tonality for the guitars better. ( ??? )

I need to listen to POE vs the earlier releases closer to decide if I agree with your view, so I have no opinion to offer yet..
