OT - Musical Purgatory

Postby classicstyxfan » Sat Aug 07, 2004 3:33 am

How about a little diversion form the nonsense..... ????

For the Purpose of this thread, assume you have been convicted of
a Music crime, and the Judge has sentanced you to 1 year without any music......with the exception of allowing you to choose 10 CD's
which you can play as often as you'd like...... a double Album / Disc counts as 2 of your 10 selections....

Which 10 CD's would you choose ? and why ?

I'll post mine this weekend.....

1. Welcome To Hollywood- Glen Burtnik: Purchase it and you will know why!
2. Equinox- Styx
3. Pieces of Eight-Styx
4. The Grand Illusion- Styx
5. Cyclorama-Styx
6. Seven Deadly Zens(Japan)- Tommy Shaw
7. Just A Game- Triumph
8. Infinity- Journey
9. Seven- Night Ranger
10. The Cars- The Cars

Ask me tomorrow, 1-7 will stay the same, but 8-10 might change. Edge of The Century could sneak in on a given day, as could Shaw/Blades Hallunication(Japan version).

Interesting lists.......here's mine.

The Beatles - Past Masters, Vol I & II....counts as 2

George Winston - Autumn ( Good Sunday Morning Paper reading music )

The Eagles - Hell Freezes Over

Kansas - Leftoverture

Styx - Come Sail Away - Anthology....counts as 2

I am the Bouregois Pig. Nice Ewok nerd.\
Hey, nice list with all those greatest hits albums which aren't even real albums deejaystyx. Sad.
I challenge you to find me the best Styx guitar solo and I'm being serious. I say the one in "Crystal Ball". Can you best that?

I'm Sorry for this Andrew, but O.K., The Why....

It comes to my attention that Greatest hits CDs are not allowed or not real albums but I can't find that paticular message from the actual original post..I have chosen some of the greatest hits from some of the best bands of the classic rock genre..But what really is sad is that someone can harp about my list( I know what you're saying, Oh, come on DeeJay, Don't feed the pig and consider the source, believe me, I have) while I'm scratching my head and seeing his picks in this paticular thread which are Engelbert Humperdinck ( Oh Good one), Sweatin' To The Oldies vol 6, and The Culture Club Box Set (Yea, real albums there).....

As far as the best guitar solo, Crystal Ball is actually a good choice along with Man In The Wilderness, Earl Of Roseland, The Grove Of Eglantine, Born for Adventure, Queen Of Spades,Just Get Through This Night, These Are the Times, Half-Penny Two-Penny, and Love In The Midnight (IMO).....

DeeJay.....

Please note I rethought about this post....

1. Dizzy Up The Girl - Goo Goo Dolls
2. Grand Illusion - Styx
3. Staying A Life - Accept
4. Live In NYC (disc 1 only) - Bruce Springsteen
5. 5150 - Van Halen (or maybe For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge)
6. New Miserable Experience - Gin Blossoms
7. Live 1975-85 (disc 3 only) - Bruce Springsteen
8. Nimrod - Green Day
9. Stunt - Barenaked Ladies
10. Slippery When Wet - Bon Jovi (or maybe New Jersey)

This was tough. If already-burned CDs were allowed (wasn't sure from the original post), I'd replace Grand Illusion with my own personal Styx GH, and do the same with Springsteen. Then I'd throw in a modern rock compilation CD in the spot vacated by the second Springsteen album.

As far as "why?", because I love all of these CDs from start to finish!

American Dream is great. Don't know when things went wrong, might've been when you were young and strong, American Dream. Good choice.

Okay, now suppose classicstyxfan's Judge throws you a curve and says you have to pick someone else's list from this topic. Which one do you choose and why (if you care to explain)?

I would pick piecesofeight's list!

Why?

1. From a practical standpoint, I've heard seven of his albums in their entirety (and like them to boot).

2. Of the three that are left (Hagar, Henley, CSNY), I've liked most of what I've heard by Hagar and Henley. I'm very unfamiliar with CSNY, but given the other nine albums on the list, I'll take my chances.

Classic and Deejay: Your lists look pretty inviting, as well. However, all the lists on here look fairly attractive, to tell the truth. But then again, we are Styx fans after all. Certainly we know what great music is all about :D

ek, another good spin on this scenario.......

I might be inclined to go with either Ash's or Your list.......because these lists contain the most music I dont know well. I'd take the time to become more familiar with music I havent given a chance to up to this point in time....

Dee Jay's list is more up my alley, precisely the reason I didnt pick it....too safe ( as was my own list )
