Would I be alone in thinking that we could see a "reunion" if Chuck were the one who instigates the contact?

My thinking is that he holds a few trump cards (his illness, his status as a founding member, still in contact with neo-Styx) that the others in Styx can't hold. Personally, I think that if he were to approach Tommy and Dennis seperately, there could possibly be some interest generated.

Although, as we know all too well from the past, this is Styx!! And any such decision would be subject to lawyers, agents, judges, boards of directors, and possibly even congress getting involved as mediators!!!!!

There is also some type of rift brtween Dennis and Chuck. Suzanne in one of her crib sessions said they hadn't talked to Chuck in years, but they knew of his condition because there is some type of family relationship thing happening.

If Chuck is part of their extended family through marriage and they don't keep in touch, that is too bad.

That said, I think Chuck's actions say a ton. He is like the silent partner that just goes about his stuff and knows all of the shenanigans that have gone on with the band. He very well could be the deciding factor in the future of the classic line up.

Not to dis Chuck, but at this stage in their career, his participation, or lack there of, frankly doesn't sell many tickets or CD's........

IF he were to participate in a reunion of any sort, his role would be largely symbolic. I dont see him as a power broker in 21st Century Styx.

Lets face facts.......the ONLY thing that will bring about the reunion
if there ever is to be one is cold, hard cash, and it will probably take alot of it.

Dennis is set for life, perhaps he'd like to insure his offspring and their offspring are as well.......JY will need a lot of cash to get beyond the hatred, and Tommy, well, he likes cash too. My question is, who if anyone, has both the amount of money needed, and the interest in such a reunion to make it happen ?

I know from Behind The Music that there was some problems between Dennis and Chuck as well. And I agree with the opinions expressed so far that it would take some serious dough, truckloads even, to even get all members interested.

I was thinking maybe 20-25 dates, as long as Chuck's health held out. Just enough to get the band's name out and possibly a nice payday as well.

Classicstyx, you're most likely right about the "power broker" status of Chuck. However, I just would like to think if anyone could possibly get something, anything, started, Chuck might be the one to get the ball rolling. It's also important to remember that this is ALL wishful thinking, and that I have no idea at all what I'm talking about!!!

Also(one more time) would any of us be willing to take these shows as the final Styx shows, and have the name "retired?" While I enjoyed Styx in 2001, seeing the band as a whole I think would be worth this, no matter how sad!!

It's JY's call all the way, MY opinion and I think could be a fact, well actually it's a fact.

A reunion of Dennis/Tommy/JY/Chuck would be a big money maker.

The only way all 4 of them would be together on a stage would be if they were inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. It looks like they don't even consider "arena" bands on the ballot. If Van Halen doesn't make it in, there's no way Styx would make it in.

I always wanted them to get back together, but looking at the "big" picture in reality, it just wouldn't be a good thing. Look at all the comments JY has made this past year and half. Look at his comments on Behind the Music. Just ugly talk. I can't imagine Dennis being on stage with JY when he (JY) feels so bitter towards him. I know Dennis would go back in a heart beat.

I don't think it will happen. The rest of the world just doesn't care. Their getting back together wouldn't generate enough cash to overcome the headaches and egos it would involve. What do you do with Gowan? what do you do with Ricky? I don't think Chuck could play 3 dates let alone 20.
Do you think playing 20 dates with Dennis would generate as much cash as playing 10 or more years without him? Forget the farewell tour. STYX is doing just fine without him. I am glad I can see them at a county fair. I enjoy their music and I have seen Light Up and they don't compare.

Wow! Miracles happen! I find myself agreeing with you totally on that statement, Dave! LOL!

As to the second part of what you said, my "different slant" is this. I feel Dennis' talent is so far above the conglomerate making up Styx now that he is the only one with a shot at an "after-Styx" solo career. Not a major one, mind you. I am not, uh, delusional. But he could tour small venues and get decent sized audiences to hear his music.

I know he would rejoin with Styx if asked but feel it would be a huge mistake and would never fly anyway.

As I have said elsewhere, I like where he is now and hope he stays there, stays healthy and stays happy. Oh, and gives us some new music every now and again.

I agree. Wouldn't it be nice if he could give us something in the league of Come Sail Away or Pieces Of Eight? I have enjoyed many Dennis songs since and I will forever think he has one of the greatest voices of all time, but songs like CSA and POE were special. They, along with some of his other older compositions, are in a league of their own. Nothing he's written since comes even close and it's possible nothing ever will, but it's sure fun to dream about what that next special song could sound like!

Our musical taste falls at the same place again ek. Those are two of Dennis' best 'pieces' of work.


The new stuff sounds good, but I would not put it in that league. Cannot wait to hear POE , LIVE!!
